Binaural Recordings
Also check/search for "Binaural Recordings". On youtube (but also google) you can find several samples of binaural video's where you can enjoy true 3D sound (imo better then 5.1 or 7.1....since the technique is based on a true copy of how we hear things ourself).
This week (15th of februari 2011) i bought a dummy display head for 18 euro's. It's a good dummy head since it's also covered with Latex (seems realistic to human skin). I also bought 2 separate Omnidirectional Electret microphones (inclused with 2 separate PreAmps 1.5V) for 59,58 euro's, and I bought cables to connect the microphones to my digital recorder (I bought
a Roland R-05 for 199,99 1 week ago, truly a good piece equipment for the money, 24bit, powered with just 2x 1.5v AA batteries and it uses normal SD memory cards!).
Today i made the fist recording tests with the dummy head and the R-05 and it works great! I need to finetune settings ofcourse, but the full stereo effect is there already. I have to make/find 2 real shaped ears now in order to get an accurate recording. I also did put a Cap on the head so the sound reflection against the head is more accurate (instead of hair or a wig). So, for a price of 350,- euro's more or less i have a full system with head, mics, recorder, cables and memory card...not bad i think for the amazing Surround sound you get with just normal headphones.
I will post some links with samples if you want, just email me (also for questions) to
