Without trying to be rude! You have alot of questions.....You should do a quick search for alot of your questions and maybe post a couple of questions in other rooms. (You'll probably get quicker results.) Check out the Newbie forum, as well as the other equipment forum. You'll find tons of information there! Plus you may get responses in lingo that you are unfamiliar with. So, do a little browsing around first, so that it may make sense. But do come back and share some of your hiphop ideas and questions. Most will tell you that the equipment you need is according to what your aim and your budget is!

But welcome to HR!!!!!!!!!!!!

ProTools is a registered trademark of Digidesign. For your purposes (since you're just getting started), it's probably overkill.

For now, you can get by quite nicely with your current computer and some inexpensive software to create beats and tracks till you have a better understanding of the process. Then you'll know pretty much what you're gonna want in the way of equipment.

Okay, first you wanna do alot of researching on your own, then if your Qs are a little more technical, post 'em in these forums. One thing to not overlook in your setup is sound treatment. You can get all that high-end ProTools equipment and still not get a useable sound if there's too much unwanted noise coming into the mic. BTW, since you're just starting, it's my recommendation not to go with the Mac and ProTools setup. Once you've been in the game long enough, and realize the need for an upgrade, then do it.

The Mac and Pro Tools setup might not even be a necessity (although it is a costly thing). Like others have said, I would shop around first and see what your budget is (but I would ask questions before buying anything..it'll save you a lot of headache and useless product in the future.

Once you know how you want to go about setting it up, I would go the cheapest route possible and then work with that, making small upgrades along the way. Sometimes you can trade or sell things you don't need anymore which helps you upgrade.

And it's true...if you can't get a good quiet room to record in and don't have any of the know how to work the equipment (takes time there), you're going to have recordings that aren't as good as they could be...very unlikely you're going to see anyone making hits on day 1. I know I didn't.

Also, as far as your poll. Both of them can be good...it's all preference and knowledge. These days most software is being made for both. As for me, I can build a custom PC from scratch and repair it myself so a Mac wouldn't appeal to me as much.

Fiev.
