hi. im new at this forum, and by far its the best one ive visited.
my question is about the gain stages in processors and mixers. i have the m-audio omni (delta 66/omni breakout box combo) hooked up to my computer. i just recently recieved the presonus vxp vocal processor, and im confused on where the gain should be set on both. should i set the vxp to a fairly hot signal and high output leval and then a lower setting on the omni mixer to avoid clipping? or the other way around? or should both be set the same? does it matter? i know it may be confusing to understand what im trying to ask, if so ill try to explain better.....
also, anyone with experience with the vxp, share some of your settings, so i can get a clue on what to do with its other fetures( compression, eq,de ess, idss, expander.......i have no idea what im doing)
thanks for all imput

oh, no problem.... here's what you do.......................................................

not a pro, and i don't know that equipment (i'm no help at all huh? :) )

but the input on your sound card should be at (or about) -10db

i will assume that the whatever vox processor is also a pre amp. (actually, i'm also assuming that you're going into a line input, hope that's the case)
in which case, use the input to set the level to the unit it's self, and the output to set the level to the sound card.

i may not understand your setup properly, and if so i'm sorry.

It is really going to be up to your ears in the end. use the meters to make sure nothing is clipping, but after that just play with it until you get the sound you want. their is no "right" setting for gear.

If it sounds good, it is set right. If not, keep tweaking.

thanks for the replies. i think i want to try to get past the mixer's pre amp and use the preamp on my processor. my mixer has all kinds of ins and outs, and i need to try to use the mixer as just a way to get the processed signal into the computer. .....ill keep you updated.
