WAIT!!!

BPOM
I heard the pre-mix over and over curiously why the drums sounds "thin" compared to "my original sequenced version"... Right after I compare to Pedullist's Bass part, I was shame myself with my part :o :D I was thinking how to solve it (including the cymbals problem...). So I made up my mind to do the conversion (MIDI to audio) of my own. As my some part of my DAW put back together these days, I was able to do the conversion and did necessary process to each tracks. It's all done... 6 tracks of drum parts including the Chimney (can't you hear the hum and standing noise ~700Hz on it's peak  )

3 mono tracks : Kick, Hihat, Snare
3 Stereo tracks : Toms, Cymbals, Chimney

Instead of recording the soundfonts as "synth" I tend to route the S/PDIF out of my SBLive! to Delta 1010LT S/PDIF in and record in ASIO mode to get better latency and quality. After that. I made necesarry adjusment in CoolEdit Pro 2 for each tracks.

I clean them all and make sure it's good enough to sit beside Pedullist's Bass part... I'll upload it very soon today, so dachay will mix them with the rest parts. Hang on, fella... ;)

Kewl... I'm uploading the files by now, so I can't check the very latest mix... :)

I'll post here when it's done...

:) Thanks, Mike :)

You're the man!!!!!

Anyway, what happened to the server? I've uploaded Kick, snare, and Toms. I always failed uploading the Cymbals, chimney and hihat... I'll try again in few hours...

Anybody got an extra copy of a James Instruction manual? I seem to have misplaced mine.

:D :D :D

Let me know when you have all the files uploaded, although I can't download them until Monday when I go back to work. It would take too long on my dial-up account at home.

Yeah, I know. He's been malfunctioning for years... :D

Dach, I was out for whole weekend so I couldn't send you the MIDI tracks. I'll try to send it by Wed.

A friend of mine told me he has a good sax SF and that he could use it on my MIDI tracks. Well, can't hurt, uh? I'll give it a shot and let you know.

BTW, it seems that the bed for the 1st sax solo is a bit different from the original song. Did you notice any difference?

Where did he get it from? Is it free?

BS - I did a mix using the wave files you had posted. I'll put it up on the server tomorrow. You did a nice job programming them, but my take is that the tracks sound very "midi-ish." I think that is going to be the case no matter how good the sound fonts are. It's very difficult to capture horns realistically, and nearly impossible to get a sax. It always comes out sounding like an cheap organ.

Not sure what you mean about the bed. I haven't played them side-by-side with the orginal. Is the chord structure wrong? Timing?

I did notice that I had difficulty getting the right placement in the mix for the first sax solo. Couldn't seem to get the timing to fit for the entire piece.

I played the original vs our version, and the chord structure seems to be not ok. I tried to do the mix and I had a difficult time to get the 1st solo to sound good, and when I played the original song with the cover, the chords are a bit different. Didn't have time to get the correct chords, though. Have anybody else noticed that?

Agree. We can't do magic. The best would be someone playing a real sax. Anyway, I'll try that SF I told you. It'll still sound "midi-ish", but maybe it gets a little better.

He's in another thread in this forum (about sax soundfonts), and I already asked him to join us. Let's wait for him to show up.

Actually, I had already asked Lt. Bob. I was going to surprise you guys. Anyway, he has agreed to do it, but indicated he needs a few weeks before he can get to it.

Let me know what you come up with on the chords, BS. I picked these out by ear, and they are not the most straightforward chords you'll ever come across. :) They're pretty close, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if some were wrong.

...AAAAHHHH :D

Finally I uploaded all 6 tracks of drums parts. I think dachay's "Oct 30" mix is way pretty good anyway (compared to "Oct 27") :)

Your request is all there... you can mix it along with dachay :) I'll try do my own mix this weekend (maybe :D )...

Jaymz,

PM responded to in the affirmative.

It's great news that Lt Bob has been invited to participate in the Intergalactic Collab. That's quite a coup, presumably we must acknowledge the negotiating talents of Dachay2Tnr.

I haven't checked out the latest BPOM mix yet, I've been plagued with Unwanted Dial Up ever since installing that pesky FreeFTP. Paradoxically it works well, but oh, the consequences...

That's why ACE Ftp is the best! No problems like the one you mentioned.

I've never heard of that problem, and I've used FreeFTP for years!

But then again, I haven't used DialUp for years either...

LMAO. Yeah, I was using the wrong sound font in the Oct 27 mix. :D

BTW, how come the snare and kick files are smaller than the other ones?

I'll download them and mix them in when I get Lt. Bob's sax part. (Assuming my machine will handle that many tracks. If it can't, I'll have to leave them as they were in the Oct 30 mix.)

I believe it happened in CoolEdit Pro 2. I edit the kick and snare before ticking option "open and edit wave as 32 bit data"... then I realize the result pads the head room at -90dB. The rest was edited with the option ticked... :) At least, that's all I can remember...
