But you do a good job! :)
Well, I have had a lot of experience with keyboards; however, they usually have letters, numbers and punctuation marks on them. :D

I've given this a lot of spins today while I was working. This is really turning out nice. Here are some observations so far:

1. Ped's bass line is killer. It really sets a nice groove. I'm diggin' it immensely. Good work!!!!

2. Those Dachay's sure are tight!! Man!!! As I listened to this more carefully, these guys really hit the marks when they have to. For example, when the words in the bg vocals coincide with the lead vocal (which isn't often in this song) they hit them. They hit 'em all as far as I've noticed. True pros here. Nice job guys!! I shall endevor to hit those marks when I redo the vocal. Listening to this shows me how sloppy I have gotten in the 20 years it's been since I sang in a choir or other vocal group where I had to worry about that kind of stuff.

3. The drums sound pretty damn good. A hell of a lot better than I've ever gotten from programmed drums. I really need to figure out how to get that Livesynth Pro working. I never figured it out on the trial version (which has long expired) and haven't purchased it. There were a couple fills on the snare that didn't turn out to well. Very minor. I only noticed them on repeated listens. Let's see if I can get some locations...OK...I just found 1. At 3:30 the snare fill sounds a little rushed & not natural. Excellent job on this though!! No way I could have gotten it that good.

4. The weakest area in the song seems to be the bridge & instrumental solos. I don't know what it is exactly, but it seems to me like the energy level of the song dies there a bit. It's not bad, but it just seems something is missing. I'll have to listen to the original for a reference and listen to this some more for some ideas (which may never come :D).

This is really coming along and is a lot of fun to listen to. I think we are getting very close. Nice work guys!!!!

5. Oh...yeah...one other thing I forgot. Vocal ad libs need to be added to the outro of the song ;) :D.

6. The original has obvious vocal doubling in the choruses. That might be an interesting effect. I have never been very successful at doubling vocals, but I might give it a shot here.

:D

That was before I knew they were all scairdy-cat, little momma's boys, guitarists like acidrock and Paul881 who were too chicken to participate in the collaboration. :D :D :D :D

So we end up with James, violinist and keyboardist, playing the drums. And Dachay, guitarist, playing keyboards.

Makes sense to me. :D

Do you still need a guitar part?

No problemo,it's the damn download this,line up that,etc that'll screw me up.

Pretty good summary, John. I agree with all of your observations. As regards the solo's, this still really needs a sax IMHO. Certainly the organ solo needs to go. I kinda just threw that in there as a placeholder until somebody else stepped forward with something better (which I'm still waiting on :) ).

BTW, Live Synth Pro is out of business, I believe. So you're a bit out of luck there. There are a few other DXi's that will play sound fonts, but none of them go for $60 like LSP (probably part of the reason they're out of business :D ).

I wasn't following this post, but today I dl the file from Jagular's website, and the song is great! You guys are very good!

And I agree that the solo needs some improvement. I don't want to be nosy, but if you don't mind I could try something out and send it to you (don't know how, though  ).

Congrats! Keep up the good work!

What do you play, BS? You're more than welcome to jump in on this. It's an open collaboration.

The file sharing has been somewhat of an issue for us. We had a server where everyone was posting individual files, but it seems to be out of commission at the moment (moskus is checking into it).

You could always e-mail me the file if you want (send me a PM and I'll give you my address). However, I suspect that you wouldn't want to use the Full Mix file to play along to. That file has all the other solo's in it, which I'm sure would be bothersome in trying to cut a new solo.

If you want, I can probably send you a file without the other solo's (first, though, I have to send Jagular one without the vocal :) )

Anyway, let me know what you want to do. (You don't play sax do you?) BTW, I assume you are familiar with the song?

The server is up, however we can't log into it now... the briefcase is still working :D

Suggestion, split it up and throw it in the briefcase..

Night guys... almost midnight here. :o <--- yawn

DXi SoundFont Player

Jaymz,

HS2004XL includes Dyad DXi that plays SFs. It's not very intuitive and seems to have a mind of its own.

To play multiple SFs you must have multiple instances of Dyad and an equal number of Audio tracks. It can be quite cumbersome to use, and honestly I think that VS3 is streets ahead. But then I did write a VS3 tutorial :)

My current mission (because I chose to accept it) is to replay Durms(c) through Dyad utilising Drum Maps and BlueJay SF. So far, reasonable progress is being made. I've also chosen to use the ASIO drivers for my Terratec and I'm getting a couple of minor glitcheroonies, but nothing too 'orrible.

BPOM Muted Guitar parts. I've already done this and submitted it. Maybe it got mixed into oblivion... :( Oh well, fame is such a fleeting thing. And it fleeted before it greeted.

I have little to add, other than to welcome BloodShark and Mark4man to this humble thread, whose four year mission is go boldly go where no thread has been before :D

The Fortiden Server is back online and it's mucho faster (19 kb/s)! Wooooooooo!!!

I have uploaded a copy of the latest mix to the Current Mix folder - although I think most of you have heard this already. It's the same one Jagular posted on his site.

I guess I should also upload an mp3 of the background vocals for those of you who are mixing along at home. :) I believe all the other files are already there on the server.

If anyone has anything else to post, go to it.

Our thanks again to your friend, moskus.

I'm only glad it finally works. When did it start working? My in-laws have been visiting in the weekend so I've been kind of busy. ;)

I was pretty mad at him when the server was down, but then again: It's a free service and we have all the space we'll ever need. :)

Don't know. I just gave it a try again this morning on a whim, and it worked.

I think I tried it last Friday and it didn't work, so probably sometime over the weekend.

You won't hear me complaining, that's for sure. Bass is mixed damn loud! :D

Great job guys. Now finish it, and post it!

Dach, I still hear the weird cymbal dropout thingy...

Btw, I don't have a lonely heart. I'm happily in love with my wife.
