If they are for the project we might not host them in the briefcase, just shoot me an e-mail with the attached file... again, my e-mail addy is on the web page :D

Yahoo Briefcase..... BPOM folder

wfaraoni, Did you get W32.Blaster... I"ve had the last couple of days off from work, however I believe it only took 25 minutes to spread around Australia to the 4000 users that we have at my company..

Yup thats the one. Both my systems got it, should have been a pretty easy bug to fix but it got complicated because the fix worked on one and not the other system. so I resorted to a manual removal which had complications. Darn thing would not let me delete the file. The access denied message, It took a couple of days to figure out how to get control of that in xp. Even as administrator I had to go into advanced and relist myself as the priviliged user and give myself full privs. . go figure.

Well it only sucked about 10 extra hours out of my life this week.
I need a vacation.

Looks like its gone for now

They need to hang whoever started it up by his private for the rest of his life!! IMNSHO

Porter Great work on the site and management.

Jagular. Scratch track :) :) wish my finished tracks sounded half as good.

I have not even had time to learn or try the songs guit part but we have plenty on guit players, I think. If its not finished before I get the time Ill try a stab at the guit part.

Great start so far
YOU TOO JAYMZ
Peace Bill

I tried with the MP3 at 128kbps and failed. Tried again and failed. Tried for a third time having re-exported the MP3 at 112kbps and still failed.

The briefcase folder won't upload the MP3 file.

I can see the Send Data light on my modem a-winking at me for, hmm 20 minutes or so. Then it stops.

I check the folder, and it's empty. :(

Please help me Obi Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope!

If you can't upload MP3 (as me) then just rename it to something else like... er... ".mpthree" and upload it. Then the downloader must renamet it by himself.

Wfaraoni and everyone of you guys running WinXP

Go to this site:

http://grc.com/default.htm

or better yet

http://grc.com/freepopular.htm

to download several free utilities to ensure safety of your PC from outsider attack/spy. My favorite pick were:

- LeakTest
- UnPlug n' Pray
- Shoot the messenger
- XPdite
- SocketLock <-- This is the must have !!!
- SocketToMe

They consist of very tinny program, yet powerfull. I've used these rather small utilities installed on my system without any problem at all. I hope this info will be good & usefull for you all...

Indeed, Yahoo! Briefcase won't store any mp3 files. It's their policy to do so to prevent piracy/music sharing. I don't know if moskus's trick will work, better try it :)

Thanks Moskus & Jaymz. I will do that tonight.

When you hear my contribution, you'll know exactly why Yahoo won't store MP3s :D

It will be uploaded under the name BPOM With Rhythm.HMC

HMC = Hey Moskus Collaboration

D/L & rename the file extension to MP3 and we should be in business.

Please remember, my guitar part is to be regarded as nothing more than a first draft. You can criticise my playing as much as you like, I wont sulk.

Well not much.

OK I will... :)

Then can you explain how I got my 2 mp3 files up there?

Er, no. Did you smile at them ever so nicely and say please??? :)

Cause I did a lot of swearing at my PC (yes, I know it's completely out of character, but there you go) maybe that's why nothing happened. ;)

Then it occurrred to me that perhaps I was exceeding my ISP's file-size limit, but to be honest, I've no idea what it is. Maybe I should check.

I'm going to have another try this evening regardless.

The BPOM folder isn't marked Read Only is it? Should I try lobbing my file into a different folder rather than the BPOM folder?

This is abso-frikkin-ludicrous!

I've spent since 5:00 pm this evening trying to upload BPOM With Rhythm. It's now 9:30 pm.

I give up!

I let the upload run for, oh a couple of hours, first my virus checker kicked in after 45 minutes and kicked the upload in the head.

OK, I let it do it's virus checking on both hard drives, I'll try again later.

Back from a brisk walk in the evening air I tried again.

An hour or so later I was greeted with the message Upload failed, file size exceeds the 5MB limit. Yeah, thanks for nothing...

OK then, I re-converted the WAV file to an MP3 at to 112kbps, renamed it to *.HMC and tried to upload the file yet again.

After another hour it told me Upload Complete!

Wonderful, I hit the Back button on my browser and looked in the BPOM folder, and the folder was empty... :(

This is a serious pain in the arse.

If you guys have any better ideas please let me know. My patience is wearing very thin.

That might have happened simply because you were looking at the "cached" version of the folder. Did you try and hit the refresh button on your browser?

If you got an "upload successful" message, I'm guessing it made it OK.

OK then, I re-converted the WAV file to an MP3
You weren't really trying to upload a WAV file, were you?

We appreciate the effort anyway, Bluesman. However, we might have to kick you out of the collab for incompetence. <-----joke :D

Well scratch that thought. I just went and took a look, and the folder is EMPTY!

You got me, BluesMeister. If you want to send it to me and have me try it, send me a PM.

this is sweet :) first of all, Jagular voices is very charming. James has called me, i have download bpom mp3, i think i can work the piano part a little. just make sure you mix it very shimering in the background of final mix :D I don't know the original song, but i'll make it okay. piano part i will try is blocking part only. i'll post the midi file after done. thank's James for taking a time to ask me join the collaboration. very interesting indeed. :)

Blues,

If you right click on the mp3 file and select properties, how big is the file size? 5,000,000 or less?

Sorry for all the hassell, it shouldn't have been this hard to do...

If At First You Don't Succeed, Give Up Sky Diving...

Dachay
In my anger and haste I should have pointed out the following:

1) I recorded my contribution, three mono audio tracks along side of Jagular's fine vocals (which is two tracks).
2) I mixed it down to a single *.WAV file
3) I converted the *.WAV file to an MP3 at 192kbps
4) I attempted to upload the MP3 file which failed due to exceeding file size limitation
5) After Porter's suggestion, I re-converted the MP3 at 128kbps
6) I attempted to upload the MP3 file which also failed
7) I renamed the file to *.HMC
8) I attempted to upload the HMC file which also failed due to exceeding file size limitation
7) I re-converted the WAV to MP3 at 112kbps which made the file much smaller and renamed it *.HMC
8) I uploaded the *.HMC and was informed Upload Complete
9) The file had gone AWOL
10 ) I posted on HomeReccers
11) I went to bed

What I'm going to do this morning is post a simple TEXT file to the BPOM folder. If that doesn't work: Houston, we have a problem.

Porter
The 128kbps file was just over 5.2MB in size, the 112kbps file was around 2.7MB in size.

I don't hold you personally responsible for this debacle. I'm wondering if my virus checker and or firewall is the culprit.

Maybe the good folk at Yahoo listened to my playing and thought "No way are we allowing this drivel on our site"!

Welcome aboard, Clemie. This will be fun.

If you want a copy of the original version of the song to listen to, our man Porter has posted a copy. For instructions on how to get it, go here

Blues,

If you want to e-mail me the 2.7MB file... e-mail to cakewalkersproject@yahoo.com.au and I'll save it to the cakewalkersproject briefase from the e-mail address.

I'm sure Yahoo, haven't done that... however it may be possible :D.. Just kidding

Yes Clemie,

Welcome aboard (althought I think you had already shown interest before and had sort of been dobbed in :D )

Use the MIDI file off the Cakewalkers website as the scratch track... everything for the projects are up there now.
