Yes indeed, I should not expect one particular guitar sounding everything I wanted to hear :D I realized that I could have over rated it. Actualy, my goal is as simple as to have more variation of sound out of the guitar. As it has two DiMarzio pickups, then the variation I got are rather similiar and narrow. I meant to replace one of the pickup to gain more variation if that possible. I am satisfied with (next to buy) Seymour Duncan (I forget the type). Yes, I had several guitars (althought I never claimed my self as decent guitar player :o ). Fender Telecaster standard is one of the best I got :) I also have Epiphone Les Paul Studio and several custom guitars. They are rarely played these months since I concentrate on learning keyboard, singing and violins. Just don't let me pick my special weapon, I'm good and bad on them at the same time :D I always tend to play them all by myself... I guess I'm typical homerec'er eh ? :)

Porter, Jagular and Dachay
Well... actualy I never heard those songs before :o It's not my "usual" genre, but I found it's very interesting to play them :) I still set my idea free about the part... could be clean electric guitars, drum programing, keyboard (Rhodes EP, organ, etc... who knows ? ) :) I'll choose my part when I find something good :)
Hey... can play improvisation here ? I mean I didn't exactly know the original song, so I may be play slightly different...

James, just two thoughts.

1. We have a gazillion guitarists, but very few keyboardists and violinists.

2. Improvisation is fine by me. But, not knowing what everyone else will be playing, we could end up stepping all over each other. Maybe we need to do this in sequence - i.e., someone records a part, then it gets mixed in with the previous stuff and the next person records using the previous person's track.

Once again, just thinking out loud. What does everyone else think?

Yeah...I'd say the keys are extremely important in this song. I also know I suck at keys :D. That is the extent of what I know :D.

But yeah...I'd say let's figure out who's doing what parts. I think we got BluesMeister on teh riddum geetar :D & Moskus on guitar & Porter on bass so far. Hopefully ChuckU can add some trumaphone :D. We really still need some keys, drums & BG vocals.

I also say once again...if enough players want to join in, we could do both songs??? I know "Reminising" has been started as well. We haven't heard from Wfaroni & Pauli yet and it seemed along with BluesMeister they were also interested in that one. Shall I make a signup sheet in Excel? I could do that for one or both songs to try to keep this half organized :D.

...hmmm, you were right. Hey, you can act as "producer" here, Dachay :D You're (AFAIK) the best for this kind of genre IMSO :) I will leave "guitarist" position to those gazillion axe scratcher up there (...oh yeah, he better be good or I'll be there... :D ) By the way, I had a good time so far composing basic drums & percussion tracks. We may extend the beat further after... :) Whose gonna play the bass ? Peds ? Where is the Dutch boy when we need him the most ? :D

What I meant "improvising" is put some sound that could be not exist in it's original track. Like I told you, I didn't know how exactly the original version, so I might put something different there with my keyboard (eg. string pad, minor effect ambience, organ, etc.). However, I wouldn't mask "could be played by other" instruments (eg. bass, trumpet, bg vox, etc...). I would try choosing rather simple notes so the part won't hit another part. You may simply mute them in the mix if it doesn't fit the song... :) You're the Producer, eh ? :D

Jagular
Good idea as always :) I'll see what I can do with drums programing and keys (except piano) :) We'll see what can I do with "Reminising" after I'm done with BPOM :)

Have you read the Project page which I created a month ago? :D

"Two files will be created, a MIDI file, which will contain a basic (kick/snare/hi-hat) drum track to map the tempo of the chosen song, a 'scratch track' with the drums/vocals/chord progression in mp3 format.

The song will determine in which order the tracks will be recorded, ie drums ;-), bass, guitar, synths, vocals etc.

As each track is recorded, each coloborator will export just their recorded track to a mono/stereo file (depending on the instruments) and encoded in mp3 at 192Kbps using Variable Bit Rate (VBR). Click here to see a comparison in file sizes. Server space will be allocated and either a ftp account for the contributors will be set up or some other form of submitting the song will be worked out.

As each new recorded track is received, a new 'quick mix' version of the song will be made available to all contributors so they can hear what the song sounds like, letting them hear the space for their instrumet to record etc. "

Also, I'm working on a sign up page and we can go from there.. might be easier to work out who wants to do what..

Porter, sad to hear about your loss. My condolences.

I tried to gain access to your site today and kept getting timout errors.:(

I gather that I click onb the bold a to gain secret passwords and that unlocks a midi and MP3 file? Is that right, or have I missed something?

BPOM Take 1

BPOM

OK good buddies, I've laid down some rhythm over the ScratchTrack.

Rhythm 1 panned hard left
Rhythm 2 panned hard right
Occasional melody line & chords panned centre

I can post the MP3 mixdown if you wish - but be warned, I'm not very happy with my playing. I'll certainly be re-doing it. I start off wrong-footed then I lose my place in the song! :( That's a consequence of being unfamiliar with the song. (It'll be obvious when you hear it)...

Also the balance is completely wrong because I've tried to keep the signal as high as possible without distortion. I can also hear some pops in there (sigh...)

Over to you Porter, where do I send it?

BPOM
Done with basic drums tracks... 6 tracks including a bit of percussion here and there... Now I am making revision for compability issue (soundfonts, etc..). Who's gonna mix it ? Should I send the .cwp file, or the mixed audio (wav or mp3)... where ? Porter ? umh... and simple string pad... I called Clemie on the phone for piano part, she's very interesting, said she'll be in touch if she find the time (...she's very bussy fine young lady) :)

I'll be away from DAW for couple days, be back in monday evening or tuesday (eastern time)... So I could send it by then :)

ps. Jagular ROCCKKKKSS !!!! :D

Jagular, thats a classy voice you have there:)

I would love to do Bass, but am going on vacation tomorrow, so might miss my chance:(

I'll see what the state of play is when I get back.:)

You might get stuck with me:eek:

Great page, Porter! I didn't know it was that good! Excellent... :)

Jagular, love your voice! :)

Ah, I'm sensing progress here. :D :D Let's make this happen!

I called Clemie on the phone for piano part
James, I certainly hope that call was only about this collaboration.

I'll volunteer me and my mates to do the background vocals. Sign us up, Porter. I think we should do these last, however. After Jag puts down his final lead. That way we can follow him.

In the meantime, we'll start practicing.

... :o <--...we're talking Java boys.

:D

Hey, lets bake the Cake :)
After the drums & perc is done, the next step will be bass part, right ? Whos in ?

I would like to do bass but am on holiday for a week from today, plus I have some work distractions when I get back which means that it will be two weeks before I get a chance.

So if anyone else wants to do it, then so be it.

Yahoo Briefcase..... BPOM folder

wfaraoni, Did you get W32.Blaster... I"ve had the last couple of days off from work, however I believe it only took 25 minutes to spread around Australia to the 4000 users that we have at my company..

James, I think we will deal in MIDI files for basic tracks, for 'final' version of each track we will get the 'owner' to produce the mp3... eventually wav files (I'm guessing about the wav file). I think we are definatly going to have to say who is doing what now before everyone does everything...

Paul... your down as bass/backup bass... I'll see how I go with it, however it isn't my strongest instrument.

I'll update the web page later tonight.

FINALLY this is rolling!!!!! ... now we just need it Rockin' also, which is will!!!

I tried for two hours Sunday evening to upload BPOM With Rhythm - but to no avail. It exceeds the 5MB briefcase limit :( The MP3 is 7.8MB

I'm not very happy with my playing and it is certainly my intention to redo the rhythm part, however I wanted you all to have a listen. I needed to know if I was on the right, track so to speak, regarding my contribution. Any other suggestions regarding the upload?

I was playing BPOM With Rhythm back during the aborted upload, and I did get embarrasingly lost during the bridge passage...

There's a fair amount of spurious noise (sounds like the fridge kicking in and out) but that's down to me not to Jagular's recording.

Also bear in mind that my guitar part is well forward in the mix, nowhere near as far back as I would expect it to be during the final mix.

Sounds like you have encoded at 192Khz... try 128, should just fit!

Cool...
Can you tell me the address ? I'd upload the .mid files, and post necessary info here...

I assign standard drums key, so it can be played with any standard MIDI drums kit, but it's better to play with Blue Jay kit.
(I assume you all guys have the Blue Jay kit soundfonts drums, right ?)
