Hey moskus...

Hi Guys,

I'm definately in... anything that needs to be done... bg vocals/guitar/bass/piano... with piano being my worst instrument. I'll organise a mp3 of both original songs to be put on the web somewhere (I got to find some storage I've set up) and I'll publish the details here...

Moskus, how is that server looking? The storage I've got only allows 5 MB uploads with something like **** MB of storage space (Yahoo)

Also, in regards to what we record it as... I know I would prefer to work with mp3 files of tracks other than wav files, because of 2 issues:

1. Some people may be running slow dial up
2. Personally, in my case, limited download per month

I'm about to update the
Cakewalkers page with the MIDI files I've got... for BPOM I'll put up dachay2tnr and for Reminiscing I'll put up both Blues & the one I downloaded.

Now this project IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!! <-- the entirety of my 'Gripers' speach!!

I've uploaded the original two songs to a 'secret' location ... which I will publish on cakewalkers.

I'll post another message with the details when it is update.

My Grand Mother passed away yesterday at 4:10pm. My Mother and myself were running late to get to the hospital and arrived there just after she had passed away.. which we are both grateful for. Our family is happy for her that she is no longer suffering.

My old next door neighbor also passed away the night before my Grand Mother.. both the same age.. ie 2 funeral next week :(

Thanks for the warm "Welcome Home", guys! :)

------------------------------
Porter:

The server is beeing worked on and reconfigured. By the end of next week we should have around 500 MBs for storage! :) :) :)

BUT please remember that's it's an relatively slow server... :(

OK, Site is updated... on the Update page there is an 'a' after the first line of the 14 August update page... click there for the passwords.. ie get to some original ;) files.

If you have any question, post here or e-mail me.

Moskus, if the server is slow, that might be another reason to only work with MP3 files... ie download/upload.

Porter - sorry about your grandmom. But as you say, it is probably for the best. Best wishes to you and your family.

You are correct that this needs to be done with .mp3's. The wave files could run to 50mb ea. in size. No real way to transmit them practically. I think we should work with .mp3's and if this turns out any good, later on we might want to surface mail copies of the wave tracks, for someone to put together a final mix.

I also suggest that we use Jagular's mp3 as the reference track, since it has the vocal. The song IMO is much easier to follow along to with the vocal in it. It also has a 4 click intro, which should be left in everyone's instrument track to be used for alignment.

We still need assignments for everyone. I think I heard BluesMeister volunteer for the guitar. You want to take a crack at the bass, Porter? As I mentioned earlier, you can pick out the bass notes right off the midi track I sent you using the staff view in Sonar.

Bluesman asked for an mp3 of the original. Anyone else need a copy, or are the rest of you familiar with the song?

Advantages of using MIDI verses mp3... once you open the midi, set up the Edirol VSC, you have the tempo and everything... give everyone both option..

I can play bass and I'll try, however if someone plays it as their primary instrument, they can play it.

If you have a look at my last post it has the clue on where to find the files on the web ;)

Hey Porter - sorry to hear about your grandma, but glad that the inevitable has finally happened. RIP grandma. :(

Oh and as far as getting the mp3...cough...kazaa lite (tastes great, none of the spyware)...cough... I know they are starting to come down of uploaders of copyrighted music here in the states, but I imagine you're pretty safe over there for the time being.

Disclaimer:

I am not a proponant of file sharing, but I do use it occasionally to scope out projects like this. But I also do delete the files when my research is complete. Besides, I know I own a copy of "Reminiscing" and I may own a copy of BPOM on one of my 70's compilation CD's. I'm just too lazy to go look :p :D

OK, cool. I'm a little slow.

BluesMeister, I assume that is a better approach for you, so unless I hear otherwise, I won't e-mail you the mp3.

I agree, but it doesn't have the vocal, which I thought might help people. Would it make sense to ask Jag to post an .mp3 of just the vocal? Then someone could use the midi to set up the cakewalk project, and drop the vocal into that project.

It's possible to do do that with the .mp3 he now has available, but the elec. piano, bass and click would be duplicated.

Just tossing out suggestions here, guys.

Okay, I agree with the MP3-thing. But one disclaimer: That MP3s is only used to exchange ideas and "temporary" tracks. When all the mixing is done (by for instance just one member because of practical reasons), we could send all the tracks in wave files 44/16 to that person either on CD or via the webpage.

That way the quality would be good, and if we're mixing with either applied effects (at home) and real-time effects (at the engineer), changing the MP3 tracks with the WAV tracks would be a breeze.

:)

Just a PS...I had really good luck exchanging wav files on another project and zipping them. I think I got 4 mono vocal tracks to a 5+ minute song on my 25mb webspace.

Just a thought :)

Hey, moskus (wow, isn't that the title to this thread? :D ), have you signed up for a part in this song yet?

Jag, I was always led to believe zipping audio did not shrink the size. Admittedly I never tried it (because I was led to believe it didn't shrink the size :) ), so I'm willing to give it a go if you say so.

I have a feeling this project is coming to life. BUT WE STILL NEED MUSICIANS. Who's doing what here?

dachay2tnr,

I'm pretty sure that wav files will compress, however mp3's wont.

It's All Happening At The Zoo...

Yeah, put me down for Riddum Geetar.

If you want a blistering solo, er, you'd better ask someone else. My solos are tasteful and restrained. :)

Dachay
I'll check Porter's site tonight for the EmPeeThree (wasn't he in Attack Of The Clones???)

Hey, I'm glad the chords in BPOM are easier than those in Reminiscing. They're not particularly tricky in Reminiscing - it's just that it takes a bit of mental gymnastics to get the fingers heading in the right direction at the right moment.

I should be able to get some rhythm guitar laid down this weekend.

Let's Do It...

I thought he was one of the robots in Star Wars.

Did you listen to the gee-tar in BPOM yet? Not really a rhythym guitar, but not what I'd call a smokin' lead either. I'm guessing you can handle it.

(Pretty outrageous for a guy who's never heard you play, huh? That's my let's get back your confidence speech.).

Helloooooooooooooo out there. Musician's still wanted. Guess that leaves you out, acidrock. Lurker. Non-participator. Kompact user.

Cross post, John.

No, somehow my area of Jersey got skipped in this mess. Only effect on me was that I lost the local channels on my TV (which are broadcast out of NYC). Therefore I had to endure the hardship of only having cable to watch. :D

Thank god I don't work in New York.

Thanks for your thoughts Acid..

Now, has anyone actually tried the yahoo briefcase yet?

Just curious on your thoughts about how I set it up..

Porter

Sorry about your grandma' Porter :(

Hey, my DAW is running full speed now :D I'm in... infact, I laid some muted guitar on BPOM and some Clapton or Ritenour kind of solo guitar... ;) Maaaan... new set of string on Telecaster is cool... No matter what you play, it just sounds great :D
I shoulda used this guitar more often... It's been under rated for long in my bassement...

But nope... I'm not gonna publish it yet... it should be better than this before you listen to it... gonna make it on the weekend :)

;)

Please accept my condolences on your sad loss.

I'm still at work, so I haven't D/L'd anything yet.

I'm trying to work out how much to heat a chrome-iron ring so that it shrink fits onto an impeller!!! So far I've got answers of 20,000C & 225C. Hmm, back to the calculator I think.

Jaymz
That Tele of yours, did you know that for most of LedZep One, Jimmy Page used a Tele? No? Well neither did I, but I read it somewhere so I guess it must be true... :)

That's your Single Coil sound sorted Jaymz. You'll never get one guitar to reproduce all the sounds that you want, plus they each have their own idiosyncrasies. (Woah - that's a word and a half!)

I'd settle for a G&L Legacy, black with maple neck, hard-tail. That's my fave Single Coil guitar. Maybe when I finally mange to sell my BB King Lucille, Mrs BluesMeister will let me have one. (Yeah - right in the nuts, I've no doubt.)

So what part are you handling Jaymz? (No sniggering at the back there please.)

No, not really. Is there a sign-up? Okay, I hereby sign up for a guitar-part. Preferably a solo-track. :D :p

Who do I talk to and which song are we playing?
