Hey moskus...

Sorry I haven't been around much guys. I got a new job which started Monday. I'm now a Jnr Systems Administrator. I've had a hell of a lot of stuff to catch up on over the last week before I started. I think (other than my honeymoon) this is the longest between log in's on HR..

I've been reading some songwriting books recently and I've got a strange feeling that I'm about to start really write songs... I'm going to take it more seriously... so we'll see how I go.

See you around,

Daniel

Porter, congrats on your new job :)
Tought I login everyday to check posts, I didn't post replies myself that much either these days. I'm about 70% finishing my homy music lab construction & acoustic treatment, it's realy huge improvement which costed me alot. Time, thought, and money. Designing the detail of layout in reality is much more complex than I thought. I must be aware which one first done before I take next step. One mistake on the papper could ruin many things  Once I had to demolish & re-construct the corner trap because I forgot to install some cables behind it... DOH!

So far, the whole process has been fun anyway :)

Oh yes, I contacted John Sayers to put some pics & story on his site. Hope this weekend my first page can make it there.

Cheers!
;)

Looks like a nice setup, James.

But could I make a suggestion? Place the mixer to the wall with the window. That way, you can see the musicians you are recording, and you don't have two parallel walls on each side. And put a book-shelf as a diffusor in the back of the room.

Looks cool, James, but how many basses to you plan on capturing with the bass trap? Personally, I would add a guitar trap as well. :D :D

And a groupie trap while you're at it! ;)

Hey, that was the first idea, but then again, experts on stuio building forum told me I wouldn't have symetrical L&R monitoring that way. I need symetrical non parallel wall in front and side of mixing desk to do stereo monitoring... :)
I've worked on that issue for about a year, and end up expanding the wall by demolishing old wall and build new one... sigh! Somebody must have told me earlier whatever I wanted to fix will cost twice and took longer than I thought...

Aye aye... Console View on second monitor will do the trick :p :D

Here's some shoot of the corner trap & anti-flutter attached... sweet, eh? :)

Hey James,
how come you need a separate room for midi sequencing and mixing?? The computers are networked though right?

I would also put a bookshelf in the "toilet' room. Can't have too much reading material. What better place to learn? :D

Too many MIDI gears to fit one room (keyboards, synths module, EP, drum pads, etc) Im too rich for your standard...

Kiddin' :D :D :D But true, space is limiting factor here. My MIDI DAW (in sequencing room) also acts as sampler machine. Once I finish sequencing MIDI parts, I transfer midi file to Audio DAW (in control room). Open sonar, play the midi file, and trigger MIDI DAW as sampler. Audio from MIDI DAW is sent back to Audio machine (Sonar) which records it in audio track. Thus I devide CPU workload on both machine :)
