I used to use a rat (the older one) live quite a bit when the gig was at a small place and you really couldn't crank an amp that loud to get a good overdrive. Mainly just for a little boost for the solos.

I also like it for recording...

I just found my RAT. It was in a box full of radio shack cables! Reading this and I think I might have to play with it again. The thing's gotta be 14 years old. Think it will still work? Looks like you could drive a car over it and it would still work. hmmm...

I was surprised at the sound of the guitar. Seems most folks claim that recording direct from the pedal is a sound to be avoided, but "Stundael" has a pretty cool guitar sound. And it's a cool song to boot, dude. Thanks for the input.

LocusLarsen and Toker41 — If I can get y'all outside your argument with each other for a moment (which I'm not entering, btw), I'd just like to say thanks for being interested enough to supply info and even argue over it.

I'm not saying that pedals don't vary in sound from one line to the next, since there are guys who are making money by modifying old Tubescreamers to match the originals that were made in the early 70s (date?).

Having said that, I can't imagine that the second line would suck so badly that you couldn't make it work somehow. Since I've never had one, I'm not saying this as fact but rather I'm simply wondering aloud (with regards to Ian Anderson ).

Anyway, if I go with the DeuceTone it may be a moot point anyway, so don't tear out each other's throats over it, y'all. Can't we all just get along? (If I were female I'd ask y'all to stop fighting over me. )

Well, I'm sure a Boogie would be a fine amp to have, but I've been thinking about the Cornford Harlequin (see related thread). Only 6 watts, and that suits me just fine.

The Rat question arose from yet another thread in which someone asked about the viability of having a stomp pedal in front of a tube amp, so I was curious.

The V twin is nice. However, Boogie is expensive. You might wanna check out e-bay.
