HELP!!!

I really need help......the "problem is so simple that i cant find any help online for it...lol
anyways I just got a SB LIVE! card and am planning on using cakewalk for digital audio recording. problem is.......I just cant seem to get my guitar or keyboard , or err anything to properly input into the soundcard....i get NO sound or levels when they are plugged in
what do i need? and (or) what settings for the SB LIVE and CAKEWALK should i use to do this?

Are you using a preamp between your guitar and
soundcard? You need a hot enough signal to record. I am not familiar with Cakewalk but in Cubase you need to change the computer audio outs to external mic and make sure you are record enabling an audio track. Good luck!

Hey if it is simple start simple. Make sure the sound card even works to begin with. go to the control panel and see if you have the proper card selected and test out the wav files that your computer comes with. if it works check you sampling rate, sound blaster is also only 16 bit so this could give you problems. I am not familiar with cakewalk so I cant really help you much. Just try to identify the problem step by step. Usually though you need a good sound card and then you hook up a mixer to the sound card and plug the instruments in through the mixer/preamp. I have an sb live card on one of my computers too and it isn't the best for recording but it will get the sound into your computer(i don't use it for recording). I know that on the sb you can only plug in the 1/8" size plugs so you may need an adapter( go to radio shack).
