hey everyone,

I am planning on my first home studio, to be a m-audio dmp3 and a MXL v67g for hip/hop vocals. Now, I know how to connect the mic to preamp, but should i have a trs cable or ts cable? where do i put it in the dmp3? then what editing program should i use? how will my computer (not a mac) recognize the mic is in?then when im on the 1st track, do i just press record and it will just record off the mic?

thanks for chekin this out, all helps really appreciated

Hello. You need an xlr to connect the mic to the DMP3. You can use either a trs or ts cable to run out of the preamp to the computer. If you are using the computer's stock soundcard (generally not a good idea), you will probably need to use an adapter on the trs or ts cable to make it a headphone plug on the end that gets connected to the computer. It'd be a really good idea (in terms of sound quality (lots of aspects of this), performance (a/d conversion, latency), to get a better sound card/recording interface to add to that.

Use ts calbe for short connections like patch leads and instrument leads. Trs for long leads like 3m long, they are best for monitors.

NOPE!
Assuming all mono signals, Use TS if you need an unbalanced connection, TRS if you need a balanced connection. Google balanced/unbalanced if you don't know what those terms mean. ;)
