This is a perenial problem,
Bad enough for VOX, try recording acoustic guitar sometime!
The bit about dynamics and rear rejection is a bit of a red fish. My LDC Sontronics STC-2 has far better rear rejection than my SM57. Yes, it also has 20dB higher sensitivity but that is what pads and gain controls are for!
But licking a cardiod mic will give a huge bass boost, proximity effect, and so you need some serious LF chop. The Sontronics has an HP switch but the rate is not really fast enough or high enough up the range for close speech, does help some tho'. I do have the luxury of an A&H mixer with HP per channel and comprehensive EQ but even very cheap mixers have "bass, mid and treble". And! Cutting bass will help with overall noise reduction (Google for the principle of the noise cancelling mic beloved of F1 announcers).
Yes, get the pc away from the mic, even a few mtrs will help, and HTF did you end up with EIGHT usb lines???? Then, to stop sound you need mass, not fluffy things. Make a "Gobo" an acoustic screen out of the densest material you can handle. Chieften Tank armour woud be good but plasterboard (Drywall to our Colonials) MDF (HDF even better) and as thick as you can move. Face them with acoustic foam or rockwool to stop reflections.
But I doubt that pc is working its nuts off but the fans are going full tilt. There is fan control software about for free but you will need to be pretty computer smart to use it and might have to delve into the BIOS (ooooeeeeooo!). I tried "Speedfan" but could not fathom it.
Laptop? I have an i3 HP w7/64 that is quiet enough for ac' guitar recording.
Lastly. PC noise is "harmonic"that means it can be removed by software. These work by taking a sample of the noise and subtracting it from the wanted signal. I dare bet Reaper has this? There is a small quality price to pay on music recording but for Vox Pops? Nah!
