help with midi

i'm trying to hook up my computer to my keyboard but i am getting no sound when i run my program i have a yamaha psr270 and the pc music studio software but thats all i know i'm still learning will some one, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Type of computer, music studio software, are you trying to "sync" or are you trying to play MIDI, type of OS, soundcard, etc...

well i have an hp pavillion and the software is discovering keyboards & midi orchestrator i am trying to sync and play midi &i dont know what an os is

OS = Operating system,(Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP etc.)
What are you using for a cable from the keyboard to the computer? You should have a cable that has a midi plug on one end and a joystick connector on the other end.

my os is windows 98 and i have a midid cord connecting to the computer come on people help me out here!

Is the keyboard's MIDI Out cable connected to the computer's MIDI In? Is the keyboard's MIDI In cable connected to the computer's MIDI Out?

Is your software set to send MIDI notes out the MIDI Out port? If it is, what channel is it sending on?

Is the keyboard set to receive MIDI notes from an external source? If so, is it set to respond to the channel your software is seending the notes on?
