Help with guitar recording

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a small dilema. I was told when recording guitar, record the rhythm track 2 times but keep it the same track and just pan it left and right.....I've also heard that you can just select 2 tracks to record on at the time of recording and then just pan those left and right....I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to which method is the correct way to do it. thanx....

You can also record once digitally.....

Copy the track to another track....

and add effects and Pan individually.....


Another way I do it with my Taylor CE314 is to Mic and record direct simutaneousley and adjust as needed...or wanted.....

i think you will find that you get a more full sounding rhythm guitar section if you track the guitar part twice and pan the 2 tracks opposite one another.

since your timing won't be exactly the same on each take, you get a much fuller feel.

when the lead guitar is playing and the lead vocallist is laying out (ie.. a guitar solo) then i pan the guitar right down the middle. otherwise i slide the lead guitar left or right of the vocalist.

another neat trick is to pan the lead guitar somewhat to the left of the lead vocalist (lets say 3 o'clock) and then pan any reverb or chorus applied to the guitar to the right (let's say 9 o'clock). that's not something i do all the time but i use it from time to time.
