I've been meaning to give some kudos to the players so far:

Gorty - nice sweet lead riffs, very fitting for the groove. Is that your Strat or Gibson or Ibanez (did I mention I'm jealous? ;) )

:) :D :) :D

Thanx ido for the comments!

You have done a fine job as a choir boy!!!... :) :)

The guitar I used was my 1989 Fender Stratocaster Deluxe!!.... :)

I think you did mention that you were jealous over my Les Pauls!!.. :o

I don't know.
Sorry to trouble you with this but it's something I've wondered about. Being untutored in musical theorey & constantly struggling for arrangement ideas I have a few silly whacky notions such as...
If I play the chord A & someone else plays Am simultaneoulsy but a little more quietly is there any "musical" formal result?
& to show you how really dumb I can be I've often wondered if each section of an orchestra played a sep note from a chord, say F#m, would the result be recognizable as a chord & acceptable musical. I been listening to Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire almost weekly since 1976 so my idea of musically normal isn't quite where it ought to be.

Schoenberg described would you are describing as "Blue notes". They are notes that dont fit in the chordal structure, like C# in an A minor chord. I think he has the best description, technically there could be others depending on the chords before and after the one on question ( like suspensions or extensions etc).

Schoenberg has an obscure arrangement of the famous Blue Danube waltz where he uses what you are describing. In the "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo---tweet tweet------tweet tweet" melody, he does exactly that and puts a minor chord in with the major. "Under" is a dynamic marking, he would merely tell some people to play piano instead of forte

In classical music, the chord is not as important as the chord AFTER it. You cant technically name a chord until the next chord comes around, as the note that doesnt fit the first chord may serve a purpose for the second.

I knew music conservatory would come in handy SOME day  :D

I just may have a go with some vocals as well!

I have never sang either!!..........We'll see!!....

You are gonna sound like Frank Sinatra compared to me  Ive been outlawed to sing in 49 states, thank God for Ohio and it's low standards. :D
I bought autotune last year and have yet to really learn it, I think its time to break out the manual.

Thanks David, an excellent explanation & you used my example to make the point too. You obviously know your oats & pass the info along in a comprehendable form. Sounds as if you are something of a good teacher as well as an excellent musician. ta.

OK, we have another amazing part in thanks to SRRs lovely wife Darla. This isnt mixed in, I really cant mix anything until we have some more parts. Also, with a full blown horn section on this, its gonna get pretty thick. Darla is singing harmonies  The first chorus will be cincy alone, the second will have harmony, the third choir and the fourth HUGE choir.

Who's next? Are YOU next? Are ya? I KNOW you wanna do it :D

Thanks Tim and Darla for sharing your talents with us. :)

More Choir Needed

Might have a trumpet player for ya if you need him, his credits include playing gigs at The House of Blues, weddings, and other notable events :p . He is the boyfriend of one of my wifes coworkers, but I might be able to get him over here in exchange for free recording time of his own stuff, or he just might do it for free, would have to beg, err ask him.

Let me know if you want Darla to retrack her parts in some manor or fashsion (she might have something better in her), she totally enjoyed doing this.

Working on it now...hopefully I can pull off something you can use. Later.

Especially if what he pulls off, is his avatar's bra!!! :D

Sorry, I didnt get any email notifications that people posted to this thread

Anyhoo, thanks for the offer of a trumpet, but I guess I will go without it. The choir idea seems to have lost interest, so unless we have a LOT of last minute choir entries, the full blown orchestration wont work. I will just use "background vocals" from Gerry, Darla and Ed. I will try to post a semi-final version of this in a new thread.

Well thats depressing, come on people I know another 5-6 of you could do this for David.

I'll record in several voices when I get a chance, possibly this weekend and at the lastest tuesday night ;)

I dont know if it would sound funny with me doing some back up vocals also, but I am happy to do it if it helps....let me know ~

If its harmony I think it would be great, but then what do I know.

Bump....still hoping for some more choir boys :D

DavidK - The latest mix posted on Soundclick is very nice! Your mixing on the backups is very cool. Emphasizes the main vocals (thumbs up) but all the other instruments/vocals are pretty smooth and easy to pick up.....

:) :D :) :D

Hey, arent we all  :D

Cincy, be my guest if you wanna add more, I think it would be great. It sounds OK now whit "Background vocals" but a choir still would really be cool. Accepting any volunteers...

By the way, thanks rayc and ido1957 for your kind words, I just noticed I did not reply to them, sorry :o

Bump again -

Hey David - You've probably been busy with your workshop....any further updates?

Anybody else want to join the choir? Cmon!
