I am getting some major hiss when I record...and my recordings are at a very low volume..

HELP ME..I am mad because the is a 6 month old computer and it has gone on from day 1..and I want to fix it.

Thanks..

Hiss is a good thing. Your main goal should be to have hiss drowing out at least half of your recorded instruments.

I think you're gonna have to give a little more info...like what kinda gear you got to get any sorta real answer.

Lol..sorry

Sound card is a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio Version 2

I am running a NEC at 550 mhz (Pentium III) with 128 MBs of Ram.

I am recording using the microphone that came with my old computer..which was a Gateway. I know it is a crap mic but I never had hiss on my old computer.

I do most of my vocal recording with Cool Edit 2000 but I have tried other programs and I still get hiss..

Any other info?

Thanks.

The hiss is not because of the programs, but because the signal is too low.

Microphone signals are very weak, and the need to be amplified. Most soundcards have a built-in microphone amplifier. My guess is that either you are trying to record a mic from a line-level input, or maybe the mic amplifier in the soundcard you have now really sucks...
