Do you only want to record your lyrics...........like spoken word??????

If so you will need this.....

1. A decent computer.........hopefully a desktop, but a laptop will do as well

2. An Adio interface

3. A Microphone

4. Speakers or Headphones.

If you are going to play an instrument use the above........just add..........well and instrument......lol.

just record your amp with your microphone.

Check out http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

how are you going to record something without a mic? lol

i think the best option for you would be to get a mic that plugs straight into your computer/laptop.
or you can go with the answer the poster above me gave you, but i think an audio interface is only needed if you plan on recording much other stuff after you finish recording the songs in your notebook.

you can get really cheap mics from an electric store like radio shack. that will plug straight into the mic input on your computer.

if you want to upgrade from that, shop around for a condenser mic that plugs straight into the usb on your computer, i know lots of people with home studios that this works more then well enough for them.

if down the track you still want to pursue recording as a hobby/career, come back to this forum post another question with a full list of your circumstances, budget, ect, and im sure plenty of people here will be willing to help you out.

good luck

You'll need:

1. Stuff
2. More stuff
3. Stuff that's more expensive than 'more stuff' that everyone here tells you will get you a better result, but appears to make no discernable difference to you
4. A new set of more different expensive stuff to overcome problems with previous stuff
5. A career as a merchant banker to help pay for endless quantities of stuff
6. The patience of a saint
7. The ability to ask more focused questions so that your well-intentioned HR board members can actually help you

Is this a musical project at all?
Spoken word?
How much do you have to spend? <laughing outrageously> no... really? Hmmm... any rich relatives? </laughing outrageously>

Tyrolz my man... give us something a bit meatier to work with, pls... more detail would be good...

I got a Sony tape recorder radio last year that has a built-in mic. It cost $20 and is amazingly good.

That's a good place to start if you've never recorded before. Trying to add on all the stuff you need to learn with a computer may not be worth it as a first step.

A small cheap tape deck won't lie about your pitch and your time, and those are the hardest things to master in music.
