I am pretty new to protools and the like, this is only my 2nd real attempt. I have a projectmix I/O and the standard set of shure mics 2 58s a 57 and some others. I have been listening through all of the other mixes and they all sound cleaner than mine, is this a result of me trying to hard or possibly the mic pres on the project mix? Please tell me what I can do to clean up the mix. If you could spare musicality and just comment on the mix that would be great!

Thanks a lot

all in all i suppose the mix itself isn't too bad, but you could desperatly use some knowledge on EQing....Espically that Kick Drum... it sounds like it's made of rubber...Honestly, one of the wierdest kick drums I've ever had the pleasure of hearing....

BTW I really don't like this style of music, but this is actually a pretty cool tune...(honestly I hate this genere of music, and wish it would go away) but the change you put in the middle is cool....

You need to work on the drum sounds (all of 'em) but espically the kick...

Good tight performance...you will have something woth listening to once you get your Drums straightened out, as the is the SINGLE most important thing to have "right"... :)

I also heard some clipping in there so make sure you watch your levels, I dunno if it was there on the tracking (hopefully not) or if you pushed something too hard in your mixing...it's most noticeable at like 2:00 thru 2:15

Hey thanks man. I kind of got mixed up in trying to get the kick to be clicky... I duplicated the kick track and eqed one of them to get that click sound and turned the volume of the other kick track down...maybe if I turn it up and relax on the eq it will work out... Thanks again, sorry that I made you listen to this genre..lol

The snare is incredibly dull and blunt lol. The mix sounds fine but you should really work on the drum sound.

Everything Perdicament said about the drums is right on. That Bass drum is wierd as hell.

I would also bring the vocals forward in the mix as they are the best part of the song IMO.

The chorus harmony is sweet and the change in the middle is right on.

Good luck,

Good song - I'm a long time fan of power pop BUT
pan the rhythm guitars away from each other OR EQ carve to fit them.
The drums sound odd.
The flangy guitar is lost in mids.
The main guitar should either be split & panened either side or stuck up the middle.
The solo is fine but the tone is a bit grotty.
the break down to the single riff guitar DOESN'T WORK in terms of the rest of the song. The drop to just bass on the pther hand WORKS REALLY WELL.
Reset to mono, tweak the EQ & then pan.

thanks guys. Is there anyone that could give some tips on how you eq/compress your drums?
