HELP! Midi keyboard Midi In/Out/THRU issue

I have a

MIDI controler with one MIDI OUT

a rack with a Midi In MIDI Out and MIDI THRU

and a sound card with a MIDI IN and MIDI OUT.

I want to be able to control the rack with the controller so that I may RECORD MIDI AND HEAR the racks sounds playback.

What is the easiest way to achieve this goal without having to switch chords everytime I want to hear the rack synth playback?

Note: When I have the controller going in to the rack, the rack going in to the sound card, and the MIDI OUT of the sound card going into the MIDI THRU of the rack synth I am STILL not able to hear the sound played back.

since you said midi controller and not keyboard i can assume it has no on board sounds correct??? if this is true there's little reason for the midi output of the card to get to the controller right??? and the rack midi outs dont need to be hooked to the card either unless your useing somekind of editor/librarian that needs to interogate the modue... so i would simply hook the controller output to the card input and the midi in of the rack to the cards output...
