the MobilePre, a microphone, a microphone cable, software and speakers is all you need to get started.
 
what about the sound card???? does that have anything to do with it? the quality?
 
to elaborate, all you do is buy a microphone and plug it in to the mobile-pre. You plug the mobile-pre into your computer and make sure the driver installs....then for software I'd recommend Kristal for starters (it's free).

If you have any problems from there just search around the forums or ask again. The mobile-pre should work fine. I have one that I just use as mobile recording out of mixers for live shows, and it has served me well....
 
us audio guys call soundcards "audio interfaces"

a soundcard is just something that changes analog into digital and vice versa....which the Mobilpre does. It's just not an internal soundcard like you're used to.
 
hes right when you here audio interface, that means no sound card is needed
