Hi guys,

I need help setting up my mixer.

I have the Behringer UB802 - http://www.behringer.com/UB802/index.cfm?lang=ENG (if you click on the "top view", in the right hand column, of this page - you can get a good look at the board)

I just bought the M-audio 2496, but am still using desktop speaker for my monitors (sigh), until I can afford some real mons.

I have a condensor mic, keyboard, and guitar (line out from my amp into the board).

Will someone please take the time to spell out for me te best way to hook all this stuff up?

Right now - the mic (XLR) is going into channel 1
Guitar (line outs L and R) going into channel 3/4
Keys into channel 5/6

From the main out, I'm going to my computer...dunno what the control out is for. Eventually, when I can afford the powered mons - where will they hook up to?

Thanks for any suggestions.

From the 'control room out' you get the same as phones out which is pretty much everything that comes into the mixer. So, you can use either of the outputs for your speakers. But if you record with your laptop and use any special effects, you should plug the speakers to your computer.. othewise you wouldn't hear the signal with effects.

When writing songs, etc (i.e. not recording) try hooking up your computers main outs to a stereo channel (looks like RCA is all you have left) then take your speakers from the control room outs. That way, everything making noise will go through your speakers, all affected by the same faders. That will eliminate Traidma's dilemma of effects.

Thanks for the replies - a LOT has changed...

... in the past coupla days.

It's amazing what a full featured board can accomplish. I took the UB802 back, and upgraded to the 1622FX.

Until I can afford some active near fields, I'm using an AUX channel on my hi-fi, and using Bose 201's for my monitors now. Much better than my computer desktop speakers.

While still in the process of learning how to adjust my mix (for home and car audio, etc.) I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to adjust my hi-fi setup to make mastering any easier?
