Yo Man: get off the Matt:
Yea Verily, there is something wrong. If you are plugging in ONE MIC, per the grammar on your post, IT WON'T RUN TO MORE THAN ONE TRACK UNLESS YOU ARE USING A BUSS set up and I don't think you are using that.
Refer to your manual; 4-track is pretty simple to run. If you want to record using 4 mics, and your rig will record 4 tracks at once, you can do that. If you are using one mic, and plugging in to one track, you will record on one track; if your rig can buss a signal, you might be able to run your mic through track 1 and record on tracks 2 and 3 and maybe 4; however, you won't record on the input track, which is 1.
Maybe you can go to the Fostex Forum and get more help since I don't use that box; however, I started with 4 track, then, 8 track, then digital MD-8.
My MD-8 has bussing system that took me a while to understand; but, using it, and it is similar to other boxes, I can plug a mic into track one and send the signal to other tracks. Perhaps, you might even be able to record on the input track; I may have lost my head when I said up above that it couldn't be done.
Check the forum and your manual.
