i need a mic between$190 and $250 i want a warm sound thats not bright i own the studio projects b1 and its to bright i only want to record vocals my choices are at4040,nady rsm-2 and the apex 460, the apex looks interesting because it lets you you choose from a lot of polar patterns.

the type of music is norteÑo with accordion and 12 string guitar if that helps any but i need a mic just for vocals.

I would really aprecciate your help.

If you want something less bright, I'd recommend either a good dynamic, or an Oktava MK-319.

Well, this is the second time today that I'm quoting and Echoing Chessrock, so at the risk of appearing to not have an original thought of my own, I second the Russian MK-319 recomendation. I really like mine, even though it's the least expensive LD condensor I own. There have been several times when I've pulled a mic costing several times more off the stand, put up the 319, and it nails it. Only thing is, be sure to use a shockmount with it. It's internal shockmount and damping are not good. Aside from that, I think it's a great mic that I'll always have around. It's never overstrident, doesn't have that upper mid "I sound just like a U87" bump in the response curve (they never do), and as a bonus, you can instantly sing Russian opera when you stand in front of one....
Salute,
RD

what would be a good dynamic around that price range best for just vocals?

A pre owned SM7 or EV RE20. You may want to check out an ADK Hamburg as well.

Here's a Hamburg on eaby.

Good luck!

Chess beat me to it. Oktava MK-319 is a very nice warm sounding mic.
You could also try to find a used Groove Tubes GT-55. I think they go for around $300 new.

I Agreee, just got a new Groove Tubes GT-55......I tried it out against the 4040 and some other "similar priced" mics........It is not nearly as bright as the 4040----which seemed to have sort of a harsh brightness to me-----an the GT-55 sounded more transparent....it was $299 at Guitar Center... :)
