hi,

i have two track for gutiar distortion. they've been recorded separately but similar performance. Now i panned both, hard left and hard right, but you cant hear them hard enough from both side. if you play both tracks, it seems that you hear them at the center, but you solo them, you can hear them really hard L or R but when both, they go to the center.

are you going through something that is in mono mode? if not, there's too much distortion on both tracks.

Could you have accidentally used the same take twice as opposed to using the separate one?

That's what it sounds like to me.

Well, it's that or you played them pretty cleanly and just aren't used to the sound of hard-panned distorted guitars.

Can you hear a difference between the two tracks panned hard left and right, versus panned dead center? Hard panned guitars don't really sound super-wide if you've done it right, they just sound, well, a bit more spacious and alive. It's not really a "here's a sound from way off to the left, and here's another way off to the right" sort of effect.

If you want it to sound wider, try using a slightly different tone for one of the
tracks.

different guitar or amp or mic or mic placement signal chain etc on the other side will work:)
Oh and less distortion!

If you're using too much distortion you'll 'phase' out what little information your ears need to separate the two tracks, thus your mono problem.

What I normally do is to use two different guitars with the same amp and pedal settings, usually with different pickups. Fills out the sound nicely and provides an excellent stereo space.

yup i guess you guys are right!

the other track must have a lower distortion. The amp/distortion settings are actually twins except my performance, so im getting the phase effect. Just a little quick down setting of distortion from one track, splitted both tracks a lot. Thanks guys, thats a lot of help. :D

it may be somewhat informative to hear a clip of what you are hearing... instead of everyone just tossing random thoughts on the table.
