I'm trying desperately to figure out the source of noise (EMI) in my studio.
I've figured out that the Mackie SDR is the source of the noise. What i can't figure out is how to keep that noise from being audible.
I can literally hear the hard drives spooling up when i start the mackie. It seems to only be showing up on the output lines. I have the outputs of the mackie into a beh patchbay. then the patch bay shoves those outputs into the mixer returns. No noise when the outputs aren't routed to the mixer. I've eliminated the patchbay and went straight from the sdr to the mixer ret. still noise. I've tried to swap out the hosa dsubs, still noise. I'm also not convinced putting the sdr further away will help. The EMI isn't being picked up by the speakers, it seems to be present in the signal chain.
Three months ago we did a major move of everything and rerouted. either i didn't hear it before or it wasn't there before but it's DEF there now. I don't think that it's being recorded. I can't be certain. We usually track to 1/2 tape so that EMI might not get recorded, but it def would be recorded when we bounce from tape to HD.
I know this is sort of all over the place. COuld it be the cables (prolly not since i've swapped out cables). COuld it be a problem with the sdr?
It's got me stumped.
Any help would be appreciated.
