I seem to be having quite a problem finding what I need to hook my mic to my computer so that I can record. I plan to do some recording with Logic pro 9 and I currently possess an akg perception 220 microphone. Now from what I know I need either an audio interface with preamp that can send a digital output to the computer, a preamp along with an analog to digital converter or a mixer with preamp that can send a digital output to the computer. Is everything I said correct so far? At the moment I'm looking for something under the $100 price range and I really have no idea on which brand or setup I should get. All I will be doing is recording from the mic so I don't need multiple audio inputs. Is the price range I gave at all feasable and if not what would be the cheapest in terms of performance to price. Please advise me.

This is a little more than your budget ($149) but it gets great reviews, I just bought one to use as my interface.
It has 48v phantom power, 2 mic/line inputs, stereo out, headphone jack.
Straight and to the point - nice.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

If you're sure you'll never need a second mic input, THIS should be pretty close to your budget. (I've liked to a British supplier for convenience but I'm sure you can find an even cheaper one in the USA.)

The Focusrite listed above is also a great unit but I can vouch that M Audio has worked reliably and well for me for some years.

Thank you very much for your advice and I think ill be increasing my price to around the $150 range since it seems like a better range.

Also how does the M-Audio Mobile Pre compare to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and are there any advantages of it over M-Audio Fast Track USB besides a second mic input?

How does the PreSonus AudioBox USB 2X2 USB Recording System compare performance wise to these
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
M-Audio Fast Track USB
M-Audio Mobile Pre

I've been using Focusrite stuff for a while and would lean toward the Scarlett.
It gives you 2-channels PLUS that nice little "Plug-In Suite".
As a general rule, Focusrite does very well in the realm of analog to digital emulation.
And Good Lord! Who doesnt love that Red anodized metal outer-shell!?!?!?
If you picked up another mic, you'd already have the hardware to use it!
ie Vocal Mic and guitar mic, or vocal mic and keyboard......

It is a damned good looking little box.
I have no experience with the others, but the reason I went with the focusrite is that it struck me
as appearing to be the most physically robust unit as well.
