I want to buy a behringer VX-2000, does anybody have one?
if so what do you think about it? What about the Behringer T1952? Can somebody tell me what do they like or hate about it.
and if you've switched from it, what did you go to? Please keep in mind, I'm a cheapskate, and I'm trying to find something really nice around the vx-2000, and the t1952 price, because I'm poor.

Wow! Behringer sucks that bad?

no, but you can easily get more for your money elsewhere....like the dmp3......

for cheapskates

if your a REAL cheapskate why dont you make your own mic preamps for a few bucks ? there are cheap kits on the web
that can be bought for a few bucks. just replace the op amps with higher quality / lower noise ones. ive made one for as low as 7 bucks using ultra low noise transistors. you can compare what expensive mic preamps compared to cheap sound like. one of my songs Hi tech Man was at number one using a 10 buck mic preamp in the blues general section
of soundclick for the longest time.
www.soundclick.com/bmanning . i LOVE to fox people/know it all engineers out with which of my songs used cheap mics/diy preamps versus others ... eg: the song take my love used expensive everything.

Teacher,

Have you built this one?

It looks quite interesting.

nope...i just know benchmark makes quality gear...i don't see why this would be any different...from what i heard about the bench mark pre's are they are very clean

teacher

that is a VERY GOOD preamp from what ive heard and seen.
you are correct.

So, if I understand the info correctly, you would make a case of some kind, and then get a power supply, conect the pre to the power supply, make conections for the output, and your all set.

Am I missing something, or is that all there is to it?

that is a VERY GOOD preamp from what ive heard and seen. you are correct.

When you say good, what are you comparing it to . . . Grace 101, or better or worse?

The DMP3 will be very hard to beat in the < $200 range IMO.

maybe

also folks are reporting good sound by getting techs to replace the tubes in things like art tube mp and the ilk.
i agree the dmp3 is hard to beat and the vtb1 from what ive been told. also , and ive never tried these but at sescom.com is what looks to be in their sips range , a balanced differential circuit for
mics at 33 dollars.
dont rule out for cheap old tascam portastudios or fostex for mic preamps. just use the line out to the sound card. ive seen these
as low as 5 bucks in used places and in bargain ads. tascam designed pretty decent mic preamps.
one of my songs at soundclick used a portastudio preamp into the soundcard because i was curious as to how it might sound
on a christmas song i wrote a few years back compared to expensive preamps i had at the time.
"Rock with me at christmas" thats had lots of plays used cheap portastudio preamps. in comparison "The Wrecker" which was number 1 in guitar rock for the longest time used the mackie vlz pre's. I stayedaway from the mackie eq of course.
"THe working mans song" that has had tons of play on soundclick used , and i mean total crap transistors that you can buy 20 to the dollar called 2n2222a. mebe cost me 5 bucks to build it.
but many people love the vocals. Maybe i fluked out, i dont know. sometimes you just get golden days when everything works.
Ive tried a lot of preamp designs but the 2n2222a transistor seems to have a "vintage warmth" thats likeable and hard to pin down, even though its higher noise than say a 2n5088.
this brings me to a point. i seem to loose character the more lower noise the transistor is . just somethiong as a tip i'm passing
on if your considering diy preamps.

from there rep of making professional products i would assume its comparable to a grace 101 and up....they're not in the prosumer market.....
