hey do i need an audio interface thing with a mixer, or can i just hook the mixer straight into my computer?

Audio interface=soundcard.

So if you have any soundcard with Line In, you can get a mixer and start recording.

You should know if ur soundcard is built in or not. check.

Just so you know, if you do have a built in soundcard (which you most likely do) it won't be ideal for recording, quality wise... it will work, but eventually you would want an interface designed for the job of recording - something simple like the Audiophile 2496 runs about $100....
