ok, first time doing this so please be patient. very anxious to hear your opinions.
57 year old us-based boomer. influences are beatles, byrds, doobies, poco, eagles, etc. to name a very few. been in a pretty good 4-5 piece rock band for the last 10 years, playing only for charity. before that, it was kid stuff, then i got married, had kids, you know the rest of the story. mostly stuck in the rock/country mold. shopping for new recording rig, have about $1000 to spend before my better half reacts. will record originals and covers to give to my friends, no interest in anything commercial. just want good, clean sound, effects, voice help, ease of operation, burn discs as easily as possible. two simultaneous inputs is fine. went the guitar tracks/pc route several years ago, struggled to get it started up, major time on the help line, did few songs, turned out pretty good (although i never got good at mixing) then old pc crashed and i just never got back. but after that experience, i think i would like to try single piece of hardware. have convinced myself the boss units look to be the best. will want to put down multiple tracks, including vocal harmonies, need several drum tracks to get it right. re-dedicating myself to the effort, any and all advice appreciated.

Good stuff.
Check out the Tascam 2488 neo.
Looks to be a really good unit.
Here's a review.
I know there's a few bad points in this review, but I still think these stand alone recorders are great for what you need.
I have a Korg D1600 which works great for me.

Here is also a youtube video of a talented guy who recorded a Beatles song on the 2488,playing all the instruments himself.
I think the sound is awesome!
