Hello everyone glad to be here!

I am having a problem that I was hoping someone could help me with.

I am running Nuendo III with Vista PC and a Presonus Firestudio 26 X 26. I have had this same set up for about 4 years and no problems.

Last Friday I had a session and everything worked as normal. Saturday I fired it up and my PC kept prompting me that the Firestudio was "not connected" or "problem opening handle".

I checked the physical connections, all good.

I proceeded to delete the drivers thinking when I restarted PC it would recognise and reinstall...didn't happen.

My PC has never been connected to the internet. Is it possible I need to get online and update my Vista and that will solve problem?

Do firewire cards/cables go bad easily or have a short life span?

So far I have replaced the cable and card and I'm still having the same issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a driver problem.
It used to do it with my old interface.
Unplug the cable, delete the old drivers. reinstall new drivers.
then plug the cable back in.

or
you could do a system restore to the last time it was working (dont recommend it)

or
take out every cable from your pc.
leave it for an hour
plug everything back in and fire it up.

thats all i can suggest.
hope it helps.

I would do a restart between deleting the old drivers and reinstalling.

Also, presonus units can be really picky about the firewire chipset, did you check to make sure the new one you put in is approved? If not try the old one again. I really doubt it went bad.
