i am trying to copy a wave file from my fostex mr8 onto my computer and I get the following message: can not copy file the perameter is wrong.....

can some one so kindly tell me what the hell this means..........its never happened before.............and im about ready to kill someone rrrr...been recording all night.....and i cant copy the file its soooooooo frusrating.....

thankyou , naomi

Is this the first time you have ever tried to copy a wav. across?

I don't own an mr8, but the first thing I would be looking for is whether there is a genuine incompatibility between the "file type" out of the Fostex and the "file type" currently required or acceptable to your PC. If you have done this in the past without problems, is it possible that a setting has changed somewhere without you knowing.

Consider recording something on the mr8 that is disposable, then try exporting it to the PC...........see what happens, if it doesn't work, play around until you find a clue to the problem.

Or as a last resort..........SCREAM!!! .

Naomi,
I'm assuming you have the file manager and the MR8 upgrade. The only thing I can think of is you have named the file something the MR8 does not recognize.
Files to be copied to the MR8 must have names starting with "tr", followed by "track number" such as tr01.wav.
You also might want to check the sampling frequency, it must be 44.1 kHz or 22.05 kHz with 16 bit resolution.
Also, and this just might be the culprit......gotta be mono files!

Hope this helps.

........

well...i have moved files before with no problems...im very new to the recording world tho.

the file has been converted to a wav file on the recorder and when i copy it...it stops half way thru and that message comes up.......
the song plays fine on the recorder so is it a problem with my computer maybe?????

arrrrrrrr

thanks for the replies

if any one has any more suggestions it is appreciated......i dont want to deleat the song and start over just to have the same thing happen again....

It sounds like you need to upgrade the MR8 to v1.03 unless you have already done this......you didn't say. This was a common problem before the upgrade came out.

im sorry

i must be an idiot....

but im a little confused.......i havnt ever downloaded any softwear for this...i just got it recently and all i have is the recorder and the compact flash card......i wasnt aware i had to download softwear for it

i went to the fostex site.......and i cant find the upgrade for 1.03 on the site........

sorry to be so naive about this......aHHHHHHHH

It seems that now there is a v1.05! Maybe they just changed it, I don't know. I do think you should upgrade though.....instructions are with the download. Fear not.....it's not as difficult as you might imagine. I put it off for 3 months and when I finally did it, it was a piece of cake!
BTW, I did my upgrade with a song on the card and it went just fine. If you don't want to loose what you have, no prob.

Here's the url to the download page on the Fostex site:
http://www.fostex.com/index2.asp?file=support/software_updates

mr8 Update v1.03 is #2 on the left hand side of the page.

Here's the url to the Fostex BBS.Not much to it but it couldnt hurt to drop a line over there also.
