So with all the talk about cheap quality dynamics, I was just wondering what people thought about these. They're new, but they have gotten really good reviews elsewhere and Heil Sound is generally considered a good company. Anyone know anything about them/try them? There's two models:

The PR-30
and
The PR-40

They look pretty interesting...

spam. Hey affliated with the company guy, does the PR on the model number stand for Pro? Any gear with Pro in the title is always good 'cause it is well, pro.

I think it looks interesting enough...but the fact that the URL shows the web page in a directory named "amateur" strikes me as funny. :)

"affliated with the company guy"? Well, I guess if that was a word I would be insulted...I guess you mean "affiliated," but that would make no sense since I have no connection whatsoever to Heil Sound. If you had been around during the last year or so that I've been a member you'd see that I've never mentioned them before in my 343 posts. There are plenty of people here that will vouch for me, so I'm not too worried. Are you the new DJL? (No offense to the real DJL, I hear he's changed his ways).

Anyway, Sklathill - I think the reason that it's under the "amateur" heading is that most of the other Heil products I've seen address the Ham Radio community. So I think the "amateur" was in reference to "amateur radio broadcast."

It's kind of sad that when someone asks about a new product in this community it's immediately labeled as spam. Some people need to loosen up and try to learn instead of commenting on situations they know nothing about...

Don't mind me I'm just testing this new rating system. It's quite fun. The general gestalt seems to be if you disagree with someone you get a negative point or some grade school nonsense. Rule by popular vote! A true democracy! I'm sorry you are not a spammer. Has anyone here ever heard of Sweetnubs studios? I hear they are real good and get good reviews. Try Sweetnubs studios out sometime and tell me what you think . . . .

Dude. You just killed my reputation. That's not cool at all.

And to keep this relevant, I did a quick e-mail to the info@ e-mail on the site. Asked about availability, stereo pairs, and the Burbank studio they supposedly did this at, since I'm a quick drive down the 5 from there.

That would be awesome. If the shootout has any validity to it, the PR-40 is supposed to be almost identical (and even a little better according to the reviewer) to an RE-20 for about half the cost. I don't know if I buy that completely, but I'm definitely in the market for a cheap/high quality dynamic. Keep us up-dated on the situation!

We have the Heil PM20 and it's great as a guitar cabinet mic, much better than an SM-57, but it sucks for vocals.

Awesome, so know at least I know they're a legitimate company. Have you had a chance to try the PR-30 or PR-40? It seems like they're taylored more for vocals, acoustic instruments, etc.

I hope my hopes aren't too high for these mics. I really could use a good cheap dynamic.

i know a guy who's crazy about these mics,
he even says he replaced all his 57's with these...
don't know with which type...

seems that they are warmer, i heard sound samples,
and honestly....

they sounded a bit more muffled than 57s,
like if there was a blanket over them,
so yeah, less bright, is that more warm? i don't know

i'm not really interested in them,
i'm replacing my 57's with 421's :)

and so should u :p

Just checking if there was an update on this...

Thanks again Sklathill for checking it out!

i'm broke but looking into a re-20 so if anyone knows if thare's any truth to the re-20/pr-40 thing plllllleeeaaaaaaaassee let me know

He did reply to my e-mail, but not with anything substantial. Basically asked me to give him (Bob) a call. Haven't really had the time this week, but hopefully next I'll be able to. Can't wait for the government to give back some stuff so I can honestly be in the market...

~bump~

Any update? I know you're probably just as busy as I am if not more so, so no pressure, but I can't help being impatient :D

Sorry...been busy with school. Things got way too hectic way too fast. I'm not sure I'll be following up on this very soon, actually. Sorry...
