Heavy gain, unwanted fuzz and noise. What do I do?

ok........

Still doesn't negate the fact that they make good products and have a lifetime warranty.
That lifetime warranty might be worth it if you are absolutely uncaring about how you treat your equipment and are prone to slamming your cables in car doors, running over them with trucks, or using them to tie stuff down. If you take reasonable care of your cables you'll most likely never need that warranty. The fact that most folks never use the warranty is why they can afford to offer it; that, and the fact that their cables are so overpriced.

I have well-built but inexpensive cables, and I don't do anything special to take care of them besides rolling them up (velcro ties - no knots) and throwing them into my gig box. I haven't had a single cable failure beyond what could be fixed by a 10 minute soldering job in over 20 years. YMMV.

...which doesn't change the fact that I think they're assholes, and don't want them to get a dime of my money. There are plenty of other "high end" cables on the market, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere, and I encourage others to do the same every chance I get.

What he said.

$25 for a 21 foot cable is overpriced? How much do you typically pay for cables? The point isnt how well I take care of my cables but how other people use and abuse them. I suppose it's not an issue if you're in your bedroom playing guitar but for those of us that play gigs it is very nice to have. I play metal and I can't tell you how many times I've stepped on a cable and ripped out of my guitar while running around and jumping off of shit. Or how many times I've had people over at the house to record and they roll over a cable with a chair or close it in a door or rip it from the guitar jack.

If you don't like them that's fine. It's no skin off my back. I've never had a problem. If you're fine soldering, that's great. I hate soldering and find it much easier to walk into a Guitar Center and get a brand new cable. To each his own.:)

They have dropped their prices considerably if that's true. That's a good thing. Their business practices still suck (suing anyone who uses the word "monster" in any sort of commercial sense), and the lifetime warranty isn't worth anything to me (though I am not a "bedroom player" by any stretch). It takes me way less time to clip and solder a cable than it would to get to a music store. But as you say, whatever floats yer boat.

Understood. But what you have to realize is that they have a name to protect. Microsoft has done it in the past (read about Lindows), as have many other major corporations. There is a reason names are registered. If a company feels that another company is either a) causing confusion among customers or b) dragging their name down then it is within their rights to protest that. I agree that sometimes these companies can get all up in arms over something trivial but you have to look at it from a business perspective.

Don't get me wrong, alot of thier shit is over priced still. HDMI cables? Ridiculous. Yes they are a good quality cable and yes they do carry a lifetime warrany. The difference is that there are plenty of equal quality cables on the market and an HDMI cable isn't going to get ripped out of my Blu Ray player when I jump off a drum riser. In that instance the lifetime warranty doesn't mean shit to me. :D

+1. If they're selling for $21 these days, then they've slashed prices. I usually see Monster at $50+ for those lengths, and they make "premium" cables that can veer north of $100 in that length. Considering their margins are something like 800%, I'm glad to see them finally starting to come down.

Still, they're assholes, they'll threaten to sue (and later agree to "liscensing fees") anyone in any industry who uses the word "Monster" in their name, and there are enough good quality cables on the market at more attractive prices for equivalent or better quality who I'd rather see get my money. I can't with a clear conscience recommend them to anyone, warranty or no.

Um, no.

Trust me, I look at things from a business perspective. The business perspective here is they realize they can browbeat small business owners into paying "licensing fees" and settling out of court because they don't want to chance a long legal fight to clear their name against a company with a lot of money to throw at it.

Eh... like I said, I can understand it but at the same time it frequently gets out of hand. Monster isn't the only perpetrator but I see where you're coming from.

Or, here is a list of the suits they're currently involved in:

They're suing the Boston Red Sox, for christ's sake.

Is Monster the only company in the habit of filing frivolous lawsuits? Probably not, but that's hardly a reason to support their bullshit.
