Can somone give a little advice on which headphones to buy.
I am talking around $80 for a present, to be used in the studio.

for in-studio realtime use, in the ~100 dollar range will get you a nice pair of sony headphones. there are so many models out there that it's tough to pick just one out. i would recommend you run over to http://www.audioreview.com and see what they have to say about various models. grado makes a great sounding pair of phones for about 60 (the SRM-60s, are they?), but they're an open design, and as such, typically not a good match for studio work. sony makes the best closed phones in your pricerange, by most accounts..

Yo Close:

Beyer 250's are excellent cans and not too tight fitting.

I also have a pair of Beyer 750's but prefer the 250's most of the time.

The 250's might run a bit more than 80 pezzutos; they are closed cans and very good for studio work.

Green Hornet :D

I've heard some great things said about the Grado headphones - their low-end stuff starts in this range (75 or so) - also, the Senns are always nice - check out the Headroom at www.headphone.com for more info

Manny thanks to everyone I will check out all the options.

the 7506's are held in very high regard for a decent, well-isolated closed set of studio phones. they're designed for at least moderate monitoring work in fairly noisy environments. you might have better casual listening with something else, but it's hard to go too wrong with these.

I have four sets and can recommend them. I wouldn't be inclined to use them for mixing as they have a slightly 'smiley face' response but they are plenty loud enough. The bottom end is not as ridiculously boomy as seems to be the fashion these days.
