Hi!!
Can anyone point me towards some good headphones?

thanks.

How much you got? I use Sennheiser HD 540s. They are superb, but several models out of date. The current HD-600 is highly regarded, but expensive for a dynamic headphone at around $300 or so. It's among the best dynamic headphones around. Sennheiser has a newer, even more expensive one, I think it's called the HD-660. I'm not sure if it's better. I'm not sure all that's going on in the world of electrostatic headphones these days, but they cost a good bit more. Stax has been making them since 1959. I checked and their low cost system (phones and driver) is $675 and the high end models are close to $4000.

I'm not a big fan of any closed headphone. The physics of such headphones inevitably introduces more resonance in the response than open designs. Sometimes it's helpful for other reasons to have such headphones, but not for more accurate sound.

Cheers,

Otto

I have the HD-280's and think they are great. Probably one of my better purchases.

Memory's not what it once was. It's the HD-650. I saw them listed on Amazon at $338.

definitely love my hd-600's but you can't use them to track-- they're open backed and would bleed like crazy!

Not to disrep your rep... but MDR-V150's do sound like ass, I just returned a pair this morning and exchanged for a pair of Sennheiser HD201's. I guess I got what I paid for.

The MDR-V150's I bought were grossly exaggerated in bass and lower-mid ranges - and I do mostly R&B/Hip-Hop stuff, so if the bass is excessive even for a bass driven genre, something is definitely wrong. The Sennheiser's are much more flat.

I agree with that 100%. Big muddy low end. I gave my pair away. :D
