Yeah I know speakers are better in the bigger picture but I was wondering for around the same price in the $100-200 range which is better? Really good headphones or low end/decent speakers?

moitors vs. headphones

Headphones are always colored and do not give you accurate sound. Get an inexpensive set of monitors and save for nicer ones.

Monitors ('speakers') for mixing, headphones for checking.

I agree with Blue Groove --- get some monitors for now and save your dosh for a better set.

$ .02

ok just in case you didnt hear them.....speakers .... dont worry youll get more down the road..

speakers definately. i have $100 monitors that are amazing. if oyu do your research you can get decent monitors for under 200

Thanks alot, I knew speakers were better but I was just wondering because I heard a few people say really good headphones can do somethings cheaper speakers can.

Can anyone recommend some monitors in the 150-200 range that are accurate and get the job done?

like the article says, headphones are good for finding sonic anomolies such as pops, or clicks...sometimes they are helpful for panning, or finding where an instrument should sit in the mix...

unless you are mixing w/ speakers in a concrete square room, headphones are not going to be better for mixing than a set of monitors
