Yo Jimmy T of TNT:]
Cans? Heh, heh, heh. Before Bruce gets on line to tell you to research this site, I'll just say that there are many posts discussing cans.
But, as always, I like the Beyer 250s. And, you seem to want to spend a bundle. The Beyer cans run around 133 pezzutos. Sony makes a plethora of cans. The Beyers are a bit tight but loosen up with use. Nice and clear for tracking.
AKG? I've got a pair or two of those hanging around but don't use them any more. I also just got a pair of JVC "wireless" cans that are 900 Mhz and can be heard through walls in case you like to listen while you go and get a beer.
I've found that singers like wireless -- and they tend less to get tangled up and bump the mic and, "run it back to start" doesn't occur too much.
The Beyer cans have a very secure hookup with the wires and have both mini and 1/4 inch plugs.
Enjoy
Merry Christmas
