Headphone Question

Ok I am sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask this, I am new to this place. I have a question when recording.

Right now I am using
(Soundcard)
M-Audio Delta 44 Digital Recording System
(Mixer)
Behringer Eurorack UB1204FX-PRO Mixer

I have regular Computer Speakers

Now I am going to be recording my friend playing drums. He plugs directly into my mixer in the headphones area. My problem is I want to hear him play as well so I tried to plug into my speakers but I didn't get any sound outta it. Anyone know something I could be doing wrong.

How do you have it set up right now? How are you connecting your speakers? Are they powered speakers? What software are you using to record?

Sounds like you need to do one of the following:

1) connect your speakers to the main or monitor outs of the mixer (this will allow you to hear what he is hearing in the headphones)

and/or

2) connect outputs 1&2 (monitor mix) from the delta card to an unused stereo line-in channel on the mixer and then, do #1.

okay well

i use cool edit pro to record

my computer runs two soundcards
my regular soundcard which i need to use to hear sound
and my other that records

i go from my mixer into the delta and the delta has this thing that goes into the computer

Well, I'm not sure what's going on. Most computers won't be able to simultaneously run 2 soundcards. When I installed my delta 66, it automatically disabled the integrated soundcard in my HP desktop. You can use the delta to listen to music as well as record. Like I said above, you just need to run the monitor mix (selectable in the delta control panel) to outputs 1&2 (left and right), which you will connect to the mixer. Then connect your speakers to the mixer. If you need more headphone connections, get a splitter, or look into a headphone amp.

i am not sure how i would plug my speakers into my mixer

There are 3 sets of outputs on the back of that mixer (XLR and 1/4" main outs, plus a "control room" out). I don't know what connections your speakers have, so I can't tell you which one to use. If they're just computer speakers with a 1/8" plug, just get a splitter to go out of the heaphone jack. Otherwise, connect them to the XLR or 1/4" outs (either 3/4 or control room) on the back.
