headphone problem while recording

when i record with adobe audition 1.5, i can't hear myself as i record. i use an m-audio mobile pre usb audio interface for my mic and i just plug in my headphones into my computer and not through the interface because of the latency. is there a way to fix this problem so i can hear the track i'm recording as i'm recording? thanks in advance yall

I don't understand what you're saying here.

What do you mean you just plug your headphones into the computer? Where?

Also, you should be able to monitor through your interface without latency. You need to toggle it so you are monitoring directly, and not through the software. This usually can be done through the mixer applet for the sound card.
