Headphone/monitor mixes

What is the spec or term used on mixers to see if they have the capability of having separate headphone or monitor mixes? I'm getting a little mixed up when shopping for a new mixer.
 
Usually you would use Aux sends as monitor sends but you can also use busses or a combination of both. The more Aux's on the board and the more seperate monitor mixes you can have. You will still need a headphone amp to power the headphones because most mixers only give you one. You would take the Aux outs to the inputs on the headphone amp. Different headphone amps have different amounts of inputs so that will factor in also.
 
Thanks Tex. I not only wanted to know for recording, but also for live performance (if we decide to get IEMs).
