I know this is against the rules in many ways, but moneys tight:( .I cant afford moniters yet so I need headphones that can do an ok job with mixing. And they need to be in the $100-$150 range:eek:

Audio Technica ATH 700's.
About 90 bucks ...... they're open aire so they're not great for tracking but they're fairly balanced soundwise. Comparable to my Sennheiser HD-600's which are much more expensive.
Personally I WAY prefer open aire to closed back for everything except tracking. Closed will usually have an unrealistic bass level which you may want for some things but not mixing.

BTW ..... just ignore the comments you're gonna get that'll say everything in your life will suck from now on if you mix thru 'phones.
A lot of people have a hard time understanding that sometimes that's the way it's gotta be and may as well make the best of it.
I frequently mix with cans simply because I want to. The results I get are comparable to what I get with speakers.
Of course I have a good headphone amp with a cross feed circuit that eleminates that 'in the head' thing but I used cans even before that.
I'd rather use a good set of cans than many of the cheapie monitors out there.

i use ATH-M40fs...they were $50 or 60, theyre pretty bloody good, i was shocked...i have $150 Bose that are junk in comparision

Itll only be temporary for now until I can get some money (Btw,you stole the awesome username:D)

Btw,you stole the awesome username:D
well, no I didn't ..... it's been my user name for over 10 years and it's from something that a friend of mine and I did like, 30 years ago. Absolutely a private thing between the two of us.

But you do have me curious ....... where did you see the name that you thought it was from?

Sennheiser HD280 Pro

or

AKG K271 MKII

.......................

I've used both and would recommend either. The HD280s will squeeze a bit tighter to your head and block out a bit more outside sound. I think this also results in them sounding a tad heavier on the low-end than the 271s. So I would venture to say the HD280s are a bit bass-heavy and the 271s are more flat.
