Have you noticed that...

or maybe its my speakers, but I dont hear mixes anymore by home reccers with too much reverb. In a month. I've heard maybe one that had a tad too much verb.

The case now is that songs seem too dry. I am wondering why this is the case. Maybe its because of fear of drowning stuff in verb, maybe the software verbs dont really enhance the material, or maybe its as Bob Katz says, that mixes done on nearfields are inherently less reverbed than mixes done on big speakers.

Funk on!

To tell you the truth, I think it's a trend in music right now in general.

Sorry, that would be me. For a while I forgot my drum samples had verb on them, and added some through the effects send on top of that. Again I apologize.

Peace,

I think I just put in too little cause its sounds better than putting in too much...ah well...

It's funny you should mention that,I was just thinking today how it seemed like there was plenty of reverb on the last song I posted, but when I played the mp3 back there was hardly any.

I'm wondering if compressing it to mp3 dosn't cut off the tails?
Have to try adding some extra next time.

If you are used to 24bit than you would probably use less reverb because you can hear the nuances better. I guess we'd better do more mix checking on MP3.

I personally prefer a more dry sound but I think it is definately the style right now. Demo's in the 80's were always slathered with reverb.

Everyone then was trying to sound like Mutt Lang or Brian Eno.

Yeah, and Now even Mutt's stuff is pretty much clear and dry... Ironic Eh...

Yeah, I use a "small room" reverb, with a short decay and I just turned it up till it gives the mix that extra bit of body... I never make my mixes sound "spacey"

Seems a trend of the late nineties and 2000's is having loads and loads of compression on everything...

Thats ok.. I love compression...

yes,

the 00's sound does not have as much verb as the 80s sound( I want my verb back)

but I've noticed that the pros are not afraid to use a good amount of it. or definitely more than the average homereccer

take a listen to some current hits:

too bad - nickleback. The room is not very big, but they are a good distance into the room.

dont let me get me-pink. REVERb

escape- enriue iglesias. Even more reverb.
