Not trying to advertise, but I'm actually producing a DVD that would help you out a lot... It's a hip hop mixing and engineering DVD. The pre-order started yesterday. It will feature some big name engineer's and a major label platinum selling rapper giving tips on how to get a great sound.

It's going to teach people how to get a good sound at home or the studio, but it sounds like you could use a good primer on recording first.... Good luck!
