Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you have performed any of the published optimization methods to your DAW?

If you did, did it actually make a difference?
Do you feel its necessary?
Helpful?
Not worth it?

Thanks
Pier

Well, I tried just about all the optimization tricks I could find for XP home and yes, it made quite a difference. The biggest thing is getting rid of all the worthless background tasks you're never going to need. Plus I just had to get rid of the cartoony XP graphics in favor of the classic windows appearance, but that's neither here nor there.

Yeah, I've done a fair share of the tips from musicxp.net as well as that pdf that Tascam put out for optimizing XP. The difference is not day and night, but there IS a difference. It really doesn't take that long to do either. And you can pick and choose what you are comfortable with changing (I really didn't do any of the suggested registry edits). Like mbuster stated, xp has so much bloated graphics. Just getting rid of those should make a noticeable difference.

Does anyone know of any articles for tweaking win2000 for audio?

I followed the process for optimising your PC and www.musicxp.net . I believe that an optimised DAW will run better than a non optimised DAW. I've got SONAR installed on 2 hard drives at home... one solely devoted to Audio and one which I use for general use... ie surfing, checking mail. It only takes me about 2 minutes to swap OS's. I've got my data on a separate data drive, so what I do is do all the prep work on my normal HDD so I can surf a few music BBS's/sites then when I record audio, I just swap OS's. My base systems resoruces are much less on the optimised drive giving SONAR more CPU & RAM... more power (grunt grunt grunt <--- Like Tim Allen) and more tracks ;)

I did, and anyone should do it. It opens the door to absolutely genius and unbelievably witty music, the kind I tend to make ;)
