has anyone else had problem's with the Alesis PEQ-450?

I bought my Alesis PEQ-450 not even a month ago and I've tried to taylor my sound with it and the unit is comparible to a Radio Shack Parmetric Eq if they even made one The unit I tested in the Store Was to my Liking but the Unit I got I was very Dissapointed with for certian styles of recording i.e Rock music with live drums....the sound actually sounded too muddy than without the unit I did take the unit back and got a full refund but has anyone else had problems with this unit?

I have to post that the unit I bought at first had a flaw and the high EQ's would not work properly but the new unit I recieved from Alesis works just fine and up to my standards

What kind of eq would you compare the Alesis 450?
Is the bottom fat and tranparent like a Troident or warm and punchy like a Neve?...not that their in that range.
Is it more in the range of a Mackie eq or ....?
