Just built a new pc, Took the drives out of my other one and when I fire up windows it tells me thats there no drives installed. Is there a bios setting or something im missing?
They were both working earlier in the day, the specs are below the drives I put in my other machine are working. The newer board uses raid, and sata and other stuff im not familiar with im not sure if im supposed to disable something or what, It came with a single ide I pulled the double wire out the old machine.

asrock 775 dual vista mobo
p4 2.8
1 gb ddr2 ram
100 gb ide and 40 gb ide
m-audio mobile pre
16xdvd burner

Sounds like both drives have the same jumper settings (i.e. both set to slave or master). Look at the connector end of the drive and there should be some jumpers there, the legend should be on the drive sticker to tell you what position is what. Make sure the drive you want to be SYSTEM is the master, and the second drive is the slave

reading your posts really hammered home how ill never be able to put together a computer :(

That's basically it. If it still doesn't work, check the cables. BUT

I did notice this...

The 16x DVD Burner would need the IDE.... I'm assuming your using the 40GB along with the DVD Burner too (IDE), and the 100GB as an IDE from what your labeling, unless your DVD Burner is external.... You won't be able to use all 3 devices...

yeah there all ide, its the same config as in my last pc so I ddint change any settings. The masters and slave are the same.

Why cant I use 3 Ide drives I had four hooked up to my 1.7 celeron, And the board is supposed to support 4.

Because you said your motherboard only had 1 IDE slot that's what I thought you ment. Newer motherboards now come with 1 IDE connection onboard usually for optical or other media drives, and the HD's connect through strickly SATA now. Eventually they'll get rid of IDE all together once optical drives start using sata as a standard.

i hope your not trying to boot into windows that is installed on the harddrive while its in your new pc....that usually wont work.Youll have to wipe the harddrive and reinstall xp so it can set up your new componets.

That motherboard will support 4 devices and also Sata....

Markaholic is Right, You should reinstall Windows when installing a new Motherboard (You will have to reactivate anyways) because the Loaded Drivers are for your old motherboard and the new board uses different drivers and has different controller chips so a total reinstall of Windows is in order to get Your hardware recognized by windows.....

Cheers

PS: You will also have to go through all your Bio"s setting to set up your Bios Info, You should do this first thing when you first turn on the PC after installing your new board and then you would install Windows....

I found the problem it was the power supply only one of the connectors was working so it only powered my dvd burner and cd rom, I switched the power wire and it detected my hard drives and not my roms.

So i have to try to return the power supply hopefully its not a hassle and they dont want me to send the whole tower.
Thanks for trying to help.

you neg rep me and didnt know what was wrong either.
I have never had a brand new psu that didnt work, I found the problem when checking to see if it was the cables, the power was the last thing I checked. If it was something like a jumper I would have never had to ask for help,
nobody suggested it was a power issue.
Your a smart man see you at best buy.
