what does a harmonic exciter exactly do..
one other question is i have a (10 band)parametric eq with a visual graph of descibels..if a 250k is louder than 125k on my db graph should i lower it till the graph looks even?I may sound stupid but doing deep eqing takes allot of time i dont know when to do it when hearing each instrument track seperate or the whole mix..is there a way i can develope my ear for this as well..thanx

I have a stereo drum kit which i eqed before but now i think i should of left them flat then eqed after
and the rest are mono tracks recorded raw flat...

I'll leave the harmonic exiter question to someone who knows what they're talking about......

Usually you do want the overall mix to be relitively flat, but don't judge your sound by how it looks on your meters, if it sounds good to you then FORGET what the meter says!!

Always EQ with the whole mix, it doesn't matter how it sounds by its self, what matters is how it sounds with everything else. And sometimes you have to make certain instruments sound BAD or WEIRD by its self to make it STAND OUT good in the mix (read up on this).

Absolutly there's a way to develope your ear for this.....PRACTICE. Also knowing how your speakers sound is a very important part in getting your mix to sound right, so listen to CDs that you are familiar with on your monitors and this will give you an idea of what your song should sound like when it's finished.

Yes, you should always "Track Flat" and add EQ afterwards. It's pretty much a garantee that you will come back the next day and hate what you had used the day before, but if you add it afterwards you can go back and change it.

Hope this helps
