I do tech support and am in fornt a computer all day, I was wondering if theres any good hand excersises I could do to strenghten my fingers and wrist and so on for playing guitar,

what are the most effective had excersises I could do that would be directly related to playing guitar? thanks

I have been playing cello, guitar, and bass for more years than I can count. I too do tech work. I was tought buy a private insturctor (cello that is) that you can just use a pencil and use it to do scales and such. On guitar for chords it does not make much sence, but for scales it works. Hope that it helps

Funny thing about the gripmaster, this kid who lives down the street from me that I go to school with, his dad invented and owns the patent on that thing.

For guitar tricks....

I practice by attaching the end of the keyboard cable to the keyboard and throwing it over my shoulder... circles if you will.

I also type in the following manner:
With my teeth ala-Hendrix ( I never light it on fire though)
Behind my back for ala-SRV and others
While squat kicking ala-Chuck Berry
Roundhouse ala-P. Townsend (the pictures are for my book)
You try hitting the backspace while going forward.

Hey. Why not bring a guiter to work? I sit behind a computer ALL DAY LONG too. But when I get breaks...or a lunch, I pull my acoustic out and start playing. I mean, who needs to eat anyway?

Yes, I agree. Waxing the bishop is always a good hand strengthing excercise.

Shoveling MY snow works wonders. (yours won't help)

seriously, regular excercises with weights (curls, benches, etc)(also wrist curls) strengthen the major muscles of the forearms, that relates to finger strength. grip-masters won't do much if your major muscles are already strong, I used to keep one in my car, it was fairly useless, I could squeeze it like it was nothing.

playing bass is a good way to exercice for guitar, plus you can get pretty good at bass also.

Don't forget to stretch your fingers and loosen up your wrists frequently if you spend a lot of time on the keys, flexability counts for a lot too.
