Cool man. I would get real serious about that mouth trumpet if you want to make it in this biz son. Some guys practice that shit all their lives and still sound like crap...oh...and get closer to the mic.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm....Sam Addams..

Yes!

I wouldn't change much...........
I am feeling like I want louder vocals in this mix too.
Good loose feeling to the recording.
Natural, not forced in any way.
You should ask Lt Bob if he can play a muted trumpet to replace the mouth trumpet:D

Dan

I like it just the way it is. Nice tune, great performance and imo captured in a honest way. Keeper for sure.

Add claps if ya want, I think Sam has a point, but don't screw with this to much.

:D

bullshit...I'd change everything....it needs a break neck banjo lead in there to steal the spotlight!!

all you damn pussies that think it's perfect now... makes me sick!!
Needs some toothless picker that drools outta the side of his mouth... then it would be perfect.

so...Tex...how 'bout all the reverb? Pretty fancy smancy, eh??

slucie...you sober yet?? Sam Adams....argh>>>
high brow beer drinkers. The whole damn lot of you.....

Big fun at Sluice's place

Man, that's a big fine round warm guitar sound in the beginning. I could lay down on that and just like ... dream ...

I'd take those hand-claps down until they are just an 'impulse', they are cool in the beginning to set up the groove, but they become distracting later ... use a volume envelope to take them out just before you begin that humming section, then bring them back in ... on the next verse IMHO.

I could lay down a bitchin' jazzy-blues violin solo in the fill spots. I've got new strings on order for all my instruments, I'm still getting the logistics of throwing myself into record mode, but 'Taken' is first on my list.

Vocal is mixed at a WONDERFUL level.

Never forget YOU are a guitarist and a damn good one, and you are partial to the beautiful guitar sounds you are producing.

You could use LESS effects on your vocal here. Your vocal performance is excellent here, I want to hear MORE of the REAL vocal, and less effects.

Keep the effects heavy on the backup vocals.

DOBRO !!!!!!

ROFL !!!!!

With a drier lead, and effects on the backups, I think you'll get more 'seperation' between those two elements.

This is a keeper ... ya music makin' FEWL you ....

Fretless Bass

I think Dobro should DEFINITELY do the mouth trumpet at 1:55.

Pedullist should do a very short fretless bass solo, maybe just one lick over 4 beat ... or mabye just two fills.

I DEFINITELY think, peddulist should be playing the supporting bass in this song.

You know that feeling you get, when you burp when drinking beer, like it happens to you vocally in part of this song, but you 'handle' it, and make it part of the music.

That feeling, when you think ... oh shit, it's coming up ... not puking, but that kind of burp that atually partially digested beer, that feeling can be the fretless bass fill in here ...

Thanks for all the comments guys. I was hoping this would be a fun thread and it has been!

Hey, Dobro mouth trumpet! :D

Very nice, Tom!

Keep it like it is, it's perfect.

Sorry Studioviols, I can't...LOL

(I think everyone should add a mouth instrument....Dobro: mouth trumpet, Studioviols mouth viola, me mouth fretless)

Hey Tom,
Cool one here man. ....It sounds like you could go a few different directions w/ this.... .....or leave it as it is. Either way, cool. I could fully picture this being part of a musical... or play, ...or sumthing like that:D ....it has a visual aspect to it.
Nice guitar playing in this, I like the parts that youve woven together. ....cool one man!

Myx62- Thanks man! Glad you dig it. Clapton eh? Ya know if I didn't have amillion other things already on my to-do list, I'd learn a Clapton tune. He really is something. I did learn a Dire Straits tune if you ever want to hear that. Thanks again.

crawdad- I tried something different on the acoustic for this Al. I used one of the Octavas in front and the Studio Projects almost like an overhead. I like the blend and I'll try it again on another song I think. Cheers Al.

dobro- Yea, almost invariably spend too much time on one song at a time. I really need to give my songs more time to grow on their own. But it's hard to stop once I get flowing. Good analogy. Thanks.

Lt. Bob- Nah, I wrote this a couple years ago. It was actually one of the first songs I recorded, complete with synthesized garbage and fake crap. It was in my first post on this board too I think. But this was a nice way to just disappear for an hour. Thanks for checking it out Steve.

erichenryus- You make a cd and we'll trade. Deal? Thanks Eric.

participant- Yea standard tuning, B minor. I like this sort of thing a lot and I like the big production stuff too. It's all just different vehicles and forms of expression I guess. Stuff like this is easier to digest though for sure. Thanks Chad.

Track Rat- Oh very cool man. Thanks. Glad you came back to check it out!

jake-owa- mmmmm...Sam Adams. :)

HevyD47Ca- Thanks Dan. It did feel nice and loose doing this. Maybe I need more beer in my life. :)

sjcrts- Good advice. Thanks!

dtb- Hey man. Good to see ya!

mixmkr- That toothless picker drooling out the side of mouth image is kinda sticking with me for some reason. Don't do that. I'm very vulnerable to imagery and susceptible to suggestion.. :)

studioviolsviolasviolins- PM's....

freshears- fired. :)

muzeman- Thanks man. I was pretty due for an acoustic recording. My ears are spent from all the hard rock stuff. Thank you Pete.

joro- I tend to create characters for myself in my songs. That falsetto harmony was like the really cute bartender girl joining the song at the last minute. Haha! Thanks Joe.

sloop- taxes.

Pedullist- I was going to suggest something like that, but I was scared that people might do it. (actually it would be kinda fun.)

Guernica- Mike dude. We're about due for a new one from you. Find the time man. Just find the time. Hell put a mic in front of Junior or something. Don't make me post a whole thread demanding it. :)

Thanks fellas!

Man, as soon as you started singing, I was thinking Tom......Waits that is. This is another winner for sure.

I really like the dark club feel.

Guitar playing and sound is fantastic. I really feel the best way to get a good guitar sound is being a good guitar player. Actually, I think that applys to most instruments.

I enjoyed this a ton! Now where is your colab?! ;) :D

Simply awesome!!!

Great playing.

It's so different from most of your stuff, but I can still tell it's you. I can see a place for this on an album as a nice change up.

I really liked this. I think you should do more like this :D.

Keeper.

Wow, great writing. Writing-wise, I think this is my fave of yours so far.

I love all the "room" on this (location, I mean - not "space").

I don't so much hear Waits on this as I do Waits' *influences* - Kurt Weill, cabaret, European theater stuff, etc.

"Binds us to the dirt and to the hurt and to the weather". Damn.

No nitpicks on this one. Don't fuck with it or I'll be very very angry.

Chris
